Two New Mayors Won’t Face Opposition
Seale to Lead Flatonia and Vincent to Lead Round Top, Both Unopposed
The deadline to file for a place on municipal election ballots was last Friday, Feb. 16. There will be a few elections around the County and several important changes in municipal office.
The City of La Grange will not have a contested election this year. The only candidates to file for a place on the ballot were the incumbents: Kathy Weishuhn for Ward 1, Violet “Patsy” Zbranek for Ward 2, Kimberly Newton for Ward 3 and Bryan Kerr for Ward 4.
The Schulenburg City Council will see a shake-up following the election. Former mayor Roger Moellenberndt filed for Place 3 on the Council and he will be unopposed. The incumbent, Scott Stoner, did not file for re-election. In Place 4, incumbent Clarence Ahlshlager was the only candidate to file. There will be a contested election for Place 5. The incumbent, Larry Veselka, will step down after this term. He is the longest-serving alderman currently on the council and the mayor pro tem. Two candidates filed to replace Veselka: retired Fayette County Auditor Kathy Kleiber and local businessman and rancher Jake Berger.
In the City of Flatonia, Travis Seale was the only candidate to file for Mayor. Current Mayor Dennis Geesaman will step down at the end of this term. Seale currently serves on the City Council. There will be an election in Flatonia for two at-large seats on the City Council. Three candidates filed ahead of the deadline Friday: the two incumbents, Allen Kocian and Joanye Eversole, along with Josh Homan. Seale’s move to the mayor position will leave an open seat on the Council after the election.
All of the races in the City of Fayetteville will be uncontested. Allen Jurecka filed for Place 1. The incumbent, Neal Doty, is not running. In Place 3, incumbent Kathy Griffith was the only candidate to file. Deborah Lincke filed for Place 5. The incumbent, Pam Reynolds, did not file for reelection.
The Town of Round Top will hold an election to fill two at-large seats on the Town Council. Three candidates are running: incumbents Owen Massey and Lynn Conine, along with Karen Duddleson. Judith Vincent has filed for Mayor of Round Top, and she is unopposed. The incumbent Mayor, Mark Massey, is not running for re-election.
The City of Ellinger will not have a contested election. One seat on the town commission was up for election, and only one person filed: incumbent Kenneth Stojanik
