An 18-wheeler rollover on Interstate 10 west of Flatonia slowed traffic for several hours Thursday morning, Nov. 30.

The wreck happened around 9:30 a.m. in the westbound lanes near the rest stop about halfway between Flatonia and the Gonzales County Line. Trooper Daniel Karnick with the Texas Department of Public Safety investigated the crash. According to Karnick, Ramon Alfredo Recinos of Houston was driving a Freightliner truck pulling a flatbed trailer in the westbound outside lane. The trailer was loaded with crushed vehicles that were headed to a recycling center.

It was raining that morning and the roadway was wet. Karnick said the trailer started to fishtail, causing Recinos to lose control of the rig. The tractor-trailer went into the ditch and rolled over. Recinos managed to get out of the cab unharmed. The load of crushed vehicles toppled over into the ditch on the north side of the road.

Flatonia Fire and Rescue along with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office responded and conducted traffic control. The line of traffic in the westbound lanes backed up for almost two miles while emergency workers cleared the wreckage.
