Tri-County Umpire’s Day at the Shiner Brewery
The Tri-County Softball Umpires and the Tri-County Baseball Umpires will be celebrating the end of the season on Saturday, June 17 from 2 p.m. to closing at the Shiner Brewery. All softball and baseball coaches from the schools that Tri-County serves are invited to attend.
The Brewery is open to the public and would love to socialize with all the fans in the Tri-County area. It’s really hard to attract and keep umpires, so if anyone wants to show their gratitude, please show up and show your support.
For the most part umpiring is a thankless job, so yes, an appreciative gesture may help. Come out and get to know these men and women. Also, anyone that may be thinking of umpiring, come and meet everyone on Saturday, June, 17.
Tri-County has some of the best umpires in the state. As well as officials, the Tri-County Area showcases some of the best baseball and softball in the state too. Both the Tri-County Softball Chapter and the Tri-County Baseball Chapter are relatively small, only covering plus or minus of a dozen schools each year. But the quality of Baseball and Softball in the Tri-County area is exceptional.
Some quick research indicates that a state champion or two in baseball has been from this area over 50 percent of the time since the late 1970s. In softball, since 1997 when the UIL added the smaller classifications, the Tri-County area has had over 30 teams at the state tournament. Over 50 percent of these teams brought home state championships. Of the two TAPP schools we cover, year in and year out we have teams at their state tournaments as well as state championships in both baseball and softball.
The quality of both baseball and softball as well as the officials are excellent in the Tri-County area. So if you want to talk softball or baseball and to have just a good ole’ fashion time, then we will see ya’ June 17 at the Shiner Brewery starting at 2 p.m. There will be barbecue and drinks to be purchased, tours available, and live musical entertainment.
