Tornado Hits Giddings Area
A small tornado swept through Lee County on Thursday, April 2.
Lee County Emergency Management Coordinator Jason Snelgrove confirmed that an EF-0 tornado, which is the weakest category of twisters, touched down in South Lee County Thursday morning. The National Weather Service (NWS) said the touchdown time was 10:35 a.m. about 6 miles southwest of Giddings, near the intersection of CR 208 and FM 2239 in the Serbin community..
The tornado traveled in a northeasterly direction towards Giddings. The path was about eight miles long and roughly 50 yards wide, according to the NWS.
Snelgrove said the storm produced 60-70 mile per hour winds and caused some minor damage in downtown Giddings. He said the tornado removed portions of the roof from two businesses in Giddings. There were no reported injuries. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Giddings Police Department, Giddings VFD, Texas Division of Emergency Management, and Lee County Emergency Management all assisted with the response.
