Thousands Have a Cup of Cheer at Schmeckenfest
Between 2,000 and 2,200 folks descended on downtown La Grange for Schmeckenfest Thursday to celebrate the Christmas season according La Grange Main Street Manager Caleb Parks.
Beautiful weather helped fuel the big crowds, and some civic groups said they had record fundraising food sales during the event.
The night started with a parade led by the La Grange High School marching band with Santa and Mrs. Claus riding into town on a fire truck before visiting with kids.
Local groups hosted a number of activities from s’more-making to German dancing.
Dozens of groups served up free wassail samples around the square. Voters said the Best Leaded (alcoholic) Wassail was made by Macs Daqs (successfully defending their Schmeckenmeister Title from last year). Schultz Texas Properties was voted to have the Best Unleaded Wassail.
“Schmeckenmester is always a tough competition that usually comes down to just a few votes. This year was no different. It’s a testament to our community that we had over 30 groups serving wassail and creating those memories for everyone. I am incredibly grateful for everyone’s contributions,” Parks said.
