Super-Sized Giving: Couple Donates Home to Charity
A recent real estate transaction at 209 E. Fannin Street has brought significant support to the Greater Fayette Community Foundation and Fayette County Habitat for Humanity, showcasing the impact of creative philanthropy in our community.
Rather than take the traditional route of selling their property, homeowners Bill Bishop and Julie Ardery chose to donate the house directly to these two local nonprofits. This generous act allowed the organizations to sell the property themselves, turning the proceeds into vital, unrestricted funds for community development and affordable housing initiatives.
The generosity didn’t stop there. Inspired by the spirit of the transaction, buyers Mark and Jennifer Rothbauer not only purchased the home but also made a separate donation to the Greater Fayette Community Foundation, further multiplying the benefits for the community.
Hart Land Real Estate managed the entire process, representing both the nonprofit sellers and the buyers. Their guidance ensured a seamless transfer of the property and by donating a portion of their fees maximized the impact for both charitable organizations.
Susannah Mikulin, CEO of the Greater Fayette Community Foundation, emphasized the event’s far-reaching impact. “Generous acts like this create a ripple effect, enabling us to fund countless essential services and initiatives across Fayette County,” she remarked.
This innovative transaction stands as a model for alternative charitable giving.
