On Tuesday, March 26, of Holy Week, the St. Rose of Lima Catholic School 8th graders attended the Chrism Mass at the Cathedral in Victoria. It was a beautiful celebration with the bishop and all priests and deacons of the diocese together. The cathedral was full with students from all diocesan schools and diocesan parishioners. The Chrism Mass is three-fold. The three oils used in sacramental celebrations are blessed; Sacred Chrism, used to anoint those who receive the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Orders; the Oil of the Sick, used to anoint those who are in need of healing; and the Oil of Catechumens, used to anoint those who are preparing for baptism. Next, the priests are led by Bishop Cahill in renewing the promises they made at their ordination. Finally, the gathering of the baptized community enables them to pray for their Bishop, priests, and to participate in the celebration of the Holy Mass. The group enjoyed a nice lunch before traveling home.
