Special Meeting Held by LG City Council

The La Grange City Council held a special meeting Monday night, March 16, to handle a few matters of pressing business.

The Council authorized a natural gas supply contract with Municipal Gas Acquisition and Supply Corporation (Munigas), the city-sponsored corporation that buys and sells natural gas for municipalities around the state. City Manager Jack Thompson said that Municipal Energy Resources Corporation (MERC), the company that manages Munigas, has secured enough demand to warrant an additional contract for natural gas purchases.

The Council also needed to fill a few vacancies on city boards.

The La Grange Board of Adjustments had two vacancies. Two citizens applied for those positions, Colton Brugger and John Morrison, and Mayor Jan Dockery recommended both. The Council voted to appoint Brugger to one of those vacancies. Councilman Bryan Kerr moved to appoint Morrison to the other vacancy, however his motion died for lack of a second. The Council will vote to fill the remaining vacancy at a future meeting.

The Board of Adjustments handles hearing requests for variances, specific use permits and special exceptions to the City’s Zoning Ordinance.

The Council later voted to appoint Rhea Wagner to a vacant position on the La Grange Zoning Commission. The Zoning Commission handles hearing requests for zoning changes and special exceptions to the City’s Zoning Ordinance.

In other business, the Council awarded grant administration services to the firm Grantworks for a Downtown Revitalization and Main Street Programs grant administered through the Texas Department of Agriculture. Thompson said Grantworks will pursue the grant on behalf of the City. He said the City will face no financial expenditures unless the grant is awarded.
