Six Resignations at LGISD; New Bus to be Purchased
The La Grange ISD School Board approved contract renewals and extensions for administrators for the 2023-24 school year. A probationary contract was extended to Jill Hutchins.
Eryn Kutchka was hired as an after school care counselor and James Cash was hired in maintenance.
Resignations were received from Julie Bouchard, David Glisson, Kelsie Hrbacek, Laurie Janda, Matt Kates, and Mike Newton.
Larry Jackson addressed the board thanking them for the opportunity to serve on the steering committee to develop a five-year strategic plan for the district. He complimented the other committee members especially the high school students who were part of the committee. He said, “Some of the very best work came from those high schoolers. What solid evidence they are of the excellence that La Grange schools already produce.”
Administrative Reports
Superintendent Andy McHazlett reported that the current enrollment is 1,886 which is up by 24 students at this time last year. The average daily attendance is 95%.
He also addressed the missed school days last month. He stated that the decision to cancel school was not taken lightly and was made in consideration of the safety of the students and personnel traveling to and from school. The district is currently waiting on TEA to determine if the days will need to be made up or if the district will receive a waiver.
Assistant Superintendent Stacy Eilers gave a short report on high school UIL. She stated that the CX debate contest had been completed and that LGISD students Landon Von Minden and Olivia Eindorf received third place.
The next competition will be One Act Play which will take place on March 9 in La Grange with a dress rehearsal on March 8.
Director of Operations Sharon Muzny told the board that she and Nicole Ramirez are currently working on items for the safety grant to put into the system to get reimbursements.
She also stated that the district had a successful lockdown drill recently.
Business Items
The board approved purchase of one school bus at a price of $139,107. The cost for this will be supplanted by ESSER funds.
LGISD has been a District of Innovation since 2017. Every five years the District of Innovation status is up for renewal. The board approved the proposed District of Innovation Plan. They also approved the submission of a waiver request for additional five days of staff develop and a modified schedule/testing days waiver for the 2023-24 and 2024-25 school years.
