Shot Fired at Graduation Party

A graduation block party in Schulenburg ended with a gunshot Saturday night, May 28.

The incident occurred on St. John Road in the southwest corner of town just before midnight.

“We got a report that somebody fired a shot,” Brenek said. “We got down there and there were people going in all directions.”

Brenek said the graduation party began peacefully Saturday evening.

“The officers rolled by earlier in the night and it was pretty much a quiet party,” Brenek said. “There were some local kids hanging out. It was a neighborhood block party.”

Brenek said the party grew after 11:30 p.m. when people from out of town learned about it on social media.

“It got put out on social media and it attracted unwanted guests,” Brenek said.

Brenek said officers identified three La Grange-area juveniles who started an altercation at the party shortly before midnight. He said one of those suspects pulled out a pistol and fired it into the ground.

“Nobody was hurt,” Brenek said. “The weapon was fired into the ground. It was only one shot. We recovered a 9mm casing and the round.”

Police have not recovered the weapon, Brenek said. Brenek did not release the names of the suspect or their ages. He said the shooter could face charges of deadly conduct.

“We’re still working the investigation to solidify all the leads,” Brenek said.
