Shooting Spree Started at Weekend Pasture Party

Two Rosenberg men are in custody after a shooting spree that took place in the Schulenburg area on Friday night, July29.No one was struck by the gunfire, according to Schulenburg Police Chief Troy Brenek.
Brenek identified the suspects as Shermar MacAndrew Jones, 20, and Shawn MacAndrew Jones, 19, both of Rosenberg. Schulenburg Police obtained warrants for their arrest after the incident. Rosenberg Police apprehended ShermarJones on Tuesday, July 2. Shawn Jones was arrested thefollowing day.Brenek said the incident unfolded shortly before midnight on Friday. It started at a pasture party in the High Hill area attended by a crowd of teens and underage adults, he said. Brenek said the two suspects arrived at the party in a 2022 Dodge Daytona Charger and fired several gunshots. The two men then drove to Schulenburg and fired three shots in the 200 block of St. John Rd., Breneksaid.

A resident called 911 and reported the gunshots on St. John Rd. around 11:53 p.m. The caller provided a good description of the vehicle, Breneksaid.Trooper April Galvan of the Texas Department of Public Safety spotted the vehicle in Schulenburg and attempted to stop it in the 100 block of E. Summit St. Schulenburg Police Officer Frank Parkinson arrived to assist Galvan.
“When she and Officer Parkinson went to make contact with the driver, they got to the side of the car and it took off,” Brenek said. “(The suspects) fled east on Hwy. 90 and wrecked just before Interstate10.”The car struck a tree on the north side of Hwy. 90 just west of the Interstate 10 intersection between Schulenburg and Weimar. The driver and passenger fled on foot. Brenek said the officers recovered an AR-15 rifleat the scene.Brenek said the Dodge Daytona Challenger was purchased at a dealership just nine hours before the wreck. The car was registered to Shermar Jones,Brenek said.“Through body cam footage and social media, we were able to identify the suspects and we obtained warrants,” Breneksaid.Brenek said Police did not know about the party or the first gunshots until they began investigating the shooting intown.Brenek said the organizers of the pasture party were from the Schulenburg area. He said they promoted the party on social media, and that’s how thesuspects learned about it.“Now with information coming to light about the party in High Hill, we are working with the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office,” Brenek said. “They will continue investigating the incident that happenedoutside the city limits.”The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office said no one called 911 to report gunshots at the party. Brenek expressed frustration over the attendees’ failure to report the incident.
“There was probably some illegal activity going on out there, but at what point do you weigh the true safety of life?” Brenek said. “Because you don’t want to get in trouble forunderage drinking?”
