Fayette County Sheriff Keith Korenek reports activities of Fayette County Sheriff Deputies for the month of September.

Detective Marc Bennett is actively investigating several cases of Sexual Assault involving a child and multiple child abuse cases. Bennett is also investigating a theft involving a Skid Steer which occurred in the West Point area. Sgt. Ron Naumann is investigating Fraud which occurred over a phone app in which the suspects are using a counterfeit check to purchase items. The case remains under investigation.

Sgt. Ryan Meagher conducted a traffic stop in the Ledbetter area. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was found to be in possession of cocaine and was arrested. Meagher also responded to Interstate 10 in reference to a reckless driver call. Meagher located the vehicle described as a black Dodge Charger. Meagher conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and after further investigation, the driver was arrested for DWI BAC 0.15.

Deputy Terry Guentert was dispatched to an address in the Swiss Alp area in reference to a disturbance between family members. After further investigation, no charges were filed and both parties were separated.

Deputy A.J Gonzales took a report of a suspected scam. A report was completed and the victim’s bank was able to stop the attempt. Gonzales was also dispatched to an address in the Plum area in reference to dogs killing chickens/turkeys. A report was taken and the owner of the dogs took responsibility for the incident. Deputy Herman Olvera responded to an address just north of Schulenburg in reference to a theft in which two ATVs were stolen. Olvera gathered information and a report was completed.

Deputy Austin Moore stopped a vehicle near Schulenburg, after further investigation, Moore located several types of felony narcotics, marijuana and two loaded handguns. Both the driver and passenger were arrested.

Deputy Moore and Sgt. Ryan Meagher were dispatched to an address near La Grange in reference to a disturbance. The aggressor on scene refused to listen to the deputies commands and refused to leave the address. Deputies attempted to remove the subject at which point a physical altercation began. During the altercation, Moore deployed his department issued Taser, which was effective and the deputies were able to secure the subject into handcuffs. The subject was arrested and neither the suspect nor deputies were injured in the altercation.

Deputy James Ulbig responded to St. Mark’s ER in reference to an accidental gunshot wound. The subject was cleaning his handgun when it accidentally discharged and struck his finger. The incident was determined accidental and a report was taken for information only.

Deputy Duane Meagher was dispatched to a residence in the Flatonia area in reference to a welfare concern. A deceased male was located and there were no signs of foul play. The male was believed to have passed away due to health issues. Meagher stopped a vehicle in the Schulenburg area. A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted and Meagher located several types of narcotics, methamphetamine, illegal mushrooms, Alprazolam, Diazepam, marijuana and several different types of THC products. The driver was arrested on felony narcotics charges.

Deputy Holly Smith took a report of a burglary that occurred near La Grange. Smith also responded to a vehicle fire on I-10 westbound near mile marker 667. The fire was believed to have started in the engine compartment for unknown reasons. Smith gathered information and a report was completed.

Deputy Jared Michalec responded to an address near La Grange in reference to a burglary in which the property owner saw a female on his property. The female subject took off in a vehicle. Michalec documented the incident and the case is under investigation at this time. Michalec responded to a two vehicle accident on FM 955. The suspect involved in the crash fled the scene prior to Michalec’s arrival.Charges were filed and a warrant will be issued.

Deputy Seth Nagel took a report of a burglary that occurred in Ellinger. Nagel reviewed surveillance footage and was able to identify the suspects. Nagel located the two suspects who were juveniles. Nagel conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the La Grange area. After further investigation, Nagel located marijuana and Oxycodone inside of the vehicle. Both the driver and passenger were arrested on narcotics charges. Deputy Dustin Kieshnick responded to two death inquests that occurred near La Grange. Information was gathered and reports were completed. Deputy Lee Phillips was dispatched to a business in Fayetteville in reference to an unwanted customer in the store. A report was taken and the customer was issued a trespass warning. Phillips responded to a residence in the Round Top area in reference to a death inquest. A report was taken and the cause of death was determined to be due to a terminal illness. Phillips also took multiple reports of theft which occurred at businesses in Fayetteville. A suspect was located in both cases and both suspects were issued citations for Class C Theft. Jail Administrator Ed Sawyer reports that Fayette County Correction Officers booked in 72 individuals for the month of September. Sawyer reports that the Jail Staff transported 9 individuals to Texas Department of Criminal Justice Facilities throughout the State to begin serving their sentences for crimes committed in Fayette County.
