Several Injured in Two Wrecks on US 290
Several people suffered injuries and at least one person was flown by helicopter following a pair of wrecks on US 290 Thursday, March 16.
Texas Department of Public Safety investigated both crashes, but a report was not available in time for this publication. Ledbetter Fire Chief Kevin Woelfel said the first wreck happened around 2:20 p.m. on US 290 in Ledbetter. Two vehicles were involved. Woelfel said. Carmine Volunteer Fire Department assisted with traffic control.
They cleared that scene just before 3:30 p.m. About two minutes later, Woelfel said, another wreck involving two vehicles occurred on US 290 in Carmine.
The two departments responded to that wreck as well. One of the injured required emergency helicopter transport to the hospital. Firefighters set up a landing zone on the highway. An AirEvac helicopter landed and evacuated the injured person. Several others were transported by ground ambulance.
