The summertime is upon us. And with it comes the heat. We keep things cool here at Senior Connections, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and you’re welcome to join for time spent visiting with friends, making new friends, playing games, eating a warm, home-cooked meal and so much more.

Lynne Majek with Majek Winery in Moravia will be the Lunch and Learn speaker on June 3. They were a sponsor for the Heritage Ball fundraiser and look forward to hearing about what’s new at the winery.

The monthly excursion for May was memorable. Seniors went to Columbus for the Magnolia Day Festival and had a slight delay due to a flat tire six miles from our destination, but two wonderful heroes save the day. Fearless leader, Amanda Kridel, swooped in to whisk the travelers onto their destination, as a kind man helped with the tire. After visiting the festival, seniors enjoyed refreshing snowcones that helped to cool them down from the heat. Members then headed out to a local restaurant to enjoy some air-conditioning and good food and good company.

The May recipient of baked goods from the baking group included La Grange EMS for the valuable service they provide. Arts For Rural Texas received the second box of goodies. They are an essential partner with Senior Connections. Senior Connections is thankful for the teachers they provide for art class and the great space to hold them in. Remember that summer art classes on Fridays will be moved to the Senior Connections space for June, July, and August due to art camps held at the art center.

There is exciting news to share. Senior Connections has secured the location in Weimar to host the meal-based program on the first and third Tuesdays of the month from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The plan is to start July 2. The Methodist Church welcomes seniors to use their fellowship hall. Spread the word and plan to join for games, fellowship and a warm meal. A Lunch and Learn speaker from the community, and then bingo will follow. If you would like to share your business with the group, or call bingo, or serve food or help in any way, don’t hesitate to contact Stephanie Shroyer at (979) 702-1246 for more information.

The garden pole project is flourishing. The talented Berni Gillings has been working hard on some new poles. Last week we sold two of these wonderful garden accents to our members. Members get a discount off of the suggested donation price. And here is some exciting news. Three local talented artists will be painting the last of the garden poles. We look forward to seeing their artistic expression.
