In their final regular season home game, La Grange’s senior softball players put on a show as they smashed Giddings 15-0 Tuesday.

La Grange senior Marissa Gonzales drove in Kylin Brawley to put the Lady Leps up by 15 in the bottom of the fourth inning to enact the mercy rule and end the game early.

“The girls did a great job,” said head coach Robert Young. “They ran the bases hard. Alyssa (Liccioni) did a great job in the circle. That’s what it’s going to take for us to move on in the playoffs. We’re going to have to be on the top of our game, and I think we’re peaking at the right time.”

Senior Alyssa Liccioni pitched masterfully Tuesday, as she hurled a complete game five hit shutout with seven strikeouts.

“I thought we did really well tonight, communicated like we need to, and that’s how you win games,” Liccioni said.

Haylie Cooper, another senior, scored three runs and had two hits. Senior Avery Marshall had two hits including a double, scored twice and drove in two runs.

Senior Teagan Branch had two hits, two runs and an RBI. Sarah Kay, a senior, had a hit, a run and an RBI.

La Grange’s younger players also excelled Tuesday, led by freshman Kylin Brawley, who scored three runs and drove in two.

Tuesday’s win improves the Lady Leps to 16-12 overall and 8-2 in district. That’s even more impressive when you consider the Lady Leps started the season losing 10 of their first 11 ballgames.

“We’ve definitely improved as the games have gone on this season and we are constantly getting better,” Kay said.

“We’re having fun in practice and taking that into games,” Branch said.

They will play a postseason warm-up game Monday at 6 p.m. in Weimar.

The playoffs will start for La Grange Thursday April 25 at 7:30 p.m. at Rice Consolidated against a to-be-determined Houston ISD team.
