Senior Connections is a vibrant gathering place for seniors aged 55 and up, serving the communities of Fayette, Colorado, and Lavaca counties. Membership is completely free, and the doors open wide from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. on program days, inviting everyone to enjoy a warm beverage, friendly conversation, and a variety of games, including dominoes and cards. With a packed schedule, Senior Connections has become a beloved hub for fellowship, learning, and entertainment.

Each morning, members are greeted with their beverage of choice as they settle in to mingle and play games. Later in the morning, a selfserve counter offers water and tea, ensuring everyone stays refreshed throughout the day.

Lunch service begins at 11:15 a.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays, with announcements, the Pledge of Allegiance, prayer concerns, and a blessing. We line up at 11:30 a.m. for the home-cooked meal.

On Wednesdays, due to the large crowd, the schedule shifts slightly, at 11:10 a.m. we begin lunch service, with announcements during the meal, and lunch is served at 11:20 a.m. Members are encouraged to arrive early to secure a seat and a cool drink.

Every day concludes with bingo, featuring guest callers from local organizations and businesses. Fridays are especially creative, with art classes held at Arts for Rural Texas that foster artistic expression and community involvement.

Join on Monday, April 20 in Schulenburg, 1111 Bohlmann Ave. in Walters Park. The week kicks off with the “Cookie Roundup Day,” where members bake their favorite cookies to be packaged as gifts for bingo callers, speakers, and other special guests. So if you’re in the mood to bake, make a couple extra dozen for Senior Connections. Lunch, provided by Connie Koopmann and Koopmann Catering, features hamburger steak with grilled onions, volunteers will prepare buttered potatoes, salad, and there will be membermade desserts. Heather from the Fayette County Community Theater will speak about upcoming plays and their exciting new building project. Amanda from Anytime Fitness will call bingo at 12:30 p.m.

On Tuesday, April 21, join in Weimar at First United Methodist Church, 301 W. Saint Charles St. Amanda Kridel prepares a homecooked beef biscuit casserole, house salad, and sautéed fresh veggies, complemented by desserts from members and volunteers. Lloyd Jewel, a local musician, will provide acoustic music for the lunch and learn program, and Kelly from Crown Hospice will call bingo for the first time in Weimar at 12:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, April 22, we are back in Schulenburg. Enjoy barbecue brisket and turkey from Oak Ridge Smokehouse, paired with potato salad and beans. The team from Schulenburg Family Fitness will be in the house, adding excitement and energy.

On Friday, April 24, join us in Flatonia, 1206 S. Lyons Ave. Art classes run from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. with a meal to follow and open studio until 2 p.m. Cheryl Thomas will teach floral arranging, while Jaime Janda continues to inspire students with creative painting techniques.

April 23 marks the second adventure of the month, a trip to the Houston Museum of Fine Arts to see the Frida Kahlo art display. A charter bus has been arranged for this excursion, and while all seats are currently filled, a waitlist is available for those hoping to join if spots open up.
