Senior Connections Springs Into March With Activities and Art Workshops

Stephanie Shroyer, Senior Connections Program Director, received a very nice donation from the VFW in Weimar thanks to Tim Leihardt and Ray Adams.

Spring is arriving, and Senior Connections invites active adults in Fayette and Lavaca counties to join in Schulenburg, Weimar, and Flatonia. Membership is free the food is fine, and the fellowship can’t be beat. Drop in for any or all programs; here’s the agenda and menu for the first week of March.

Schedule is the same on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. Doors open at 9 a.m. and close at 2 p.m. with lunch served at 11:30 a.m.

On Tuesday, March 3, join us in Weimar at First United Methodist Church. Join for morning social time with dominoes, cards, and conversation. A lunch of chicken tenders from Oakridge (Schulenburg) with mashed potatoes and gravy and our seasonal salad will be served. Members supply desserts. The Lunch and Learn will be by Maria Franco, Weimar City Secretary. She will introduce her office and duties. Following the program, Alyssa from First Texas Home Health will lead bingo. On Wednesday, March 4, we are back in Schulenburg. Today’s meal features a new dish, chicken fajitas from Oakridge; volunteers will provide rice, beans, and fixings. Dessert will include peach cobbler from Koopmann Catering. Bingo host will be Debbie V. from Flatonia Healthcare.

A group of Artful Friday students will visit Texas A&M on Thursday, March 5 to see “Scraps of Life,” an exhibit curated by Jaime Janda showcasing archival journals and diaries spanning many years.

On Friday, March 6, Artful Friday workshops begin. We kick off two different monthlong workshops including Jaime Janda’s art-journal class and Claire Lewis’s printmaking class. This workshop is open to anyone 55+ (you do not need to be a Senior Connections member), but preregistration is required space is limited, and waitlists are common.
