Senior Connections Offers Food, Fun, and Friendship for Seniors
For those aged 55 and up, Senior Connections is the place to be for engaging activities, delightful meals, and meaningful connections. Whether you enjoy playing dominoes, sipping coffee and catching up with friends, going on fun adventures, or diving into creative arts classes, this vibrant community gathering spot offers something for everyone.
Membership is free, and the food is exceptional. Doors open at 9 a.m. and close at 2 p.m. daily, with lunch service starting at 11:15 a.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays, featuring announcements, the pledge, and the blessing. On Wednesdays, our most popular day, lunch service starts a bit earlier at 11:10 a.m. to accommodate the enthusiastic crowd eager to play bingo afterward.
Here’s a glimpse of what’s in store for the upcoming week. Join Monay, April 27 in Schulenburg at 1111 Bohlmann Ave. in Wolters Park. Chicken spaghetti by Connie Koopman will be a big hit, and garlic bread, house salad, and desserts made by members will complete the meal. Today is “Get to Know Your Neighbor Day,” allowing members to socialize without a formal speaker. Amedisys Hospice Care will join for bingo at 12:30 p.m., featuring fantastic prizes.
On Tuesday, April 28, meet in Flatonia at Flatonia Methodist Church, 403 E. North Main St., in Newman Hall. Chicken and rice by Amanda Kridel will be the star of today’s meal, with garlic bread, salad, and membermade desserts. The featured speaker is Lisa Deborde from the Czech’rd Dog Antique Shop, followed by bingo with Flatonia Health Center at 12:30 p.m.
We are back in Schulenburg on Wednesday, April 29. Chicken tenders with mashed potatoes and gravy from Oakridge Smokehouse are sure to bring the crowd. Salad made by our volunteers, and dessert contributions from members will complete the meal. Members can sign up to bring desserts by calling the center at (979) 743-3227. You don’t have to bake; storebought desserts are just fine.
Artful Friday with Arts for Rural Texas continues at 1206 Lyons Ave. in Schulenburg. Starting May 1, we kick off the month’s new art classes. Jaime Janda will teach pen and ink; she is sure to make the class interesting with her creative twist, and I, Stephanie Shroyer, will lead an ecoprinting class. This is the art of printing on fabric and paper with flowers and leaves. Although these classes are filled, upcoming workshops with availability include: June: Creative Painting Techniques by Jaime Janda July: Painting With Wool, Needle felting with Bonnie Karsteadt August: Creative Painting Techniques by Jaime Janda September: Rag rug hooking with Bonnie Karsteadt October: Assemblage/ Mixed Media Sculptures“Spice Girls” with Diana Chaffin November: Art Journal class for new and continuing projects. By Jaime Janda December is the time for participants to finish their yearly projects.
