Senior Connections Needs Input on Future Direction

Senior Connections in Schulenburg had a little excitement with the facility maintenance plan recently. It was time to get the floors waxed and cared for. We did wait until we had our full day on Wednesday. Alice Fajkus was the weekly Shiner Blackout winner. She won a $10 gift card to Arlan’s Grocery Store and said she was going to buy a steak.

Senior Connections started work last year on a new Strategic Plan and the board has worked diligently with staff to develop goals and objectives for moving forward. Since all this work was done internally, it is now time to seek input from external sources.

The center needs as many people to take the time to fill out a community survey to determine the future direction for the organization. If you would like to fill out a survey, visit www.srconnections.org and you can fill one out online.

If you prefer to fill it out by hand, just print it out and drop it off on a Monday or a Wednesday at the Senior Connections Center in Wolters Park. Call if you have any questions, or if you need some help getting it filled out, we will help you.

Come in and bring a friend with you. Look at the pictures of the people who are at Senior Connections and you will see smiles. People are having fun and are engaged with others. You can see that clearly in the group photos, while they are on outings, and while they work together and support each other.

Seniors recently enjoyed an outing to Jamie’s Café at the stockyards in Flatonia. Jamie and her team are always on point and make members feel welcome.

After lunch, members headed into Flatonia to the Lyric Theater to watch a matinee presentation of the “80’s for Brady” movie. Terry Ehler, who owns and manages the theater, is always ready to let us come in for an afternoon of restful pleasure. Seniors love it as they entered her air-conditioned theater to sit off their delicious lunch while being entertained.

There were 14 members in the group today. Senior Connections will continue to seek out a least one outing a month because members enjoy going out so much. If you would like to sponsor an outing, contact Cindy Villarreal at (979) 7433227.

Senior Connections is looking for folks who would like to work with seniors on some garden poles. The new style features school logos and mascots. Senior Connections already has orders in for some Schulenburg Shorthorn garden poles. The HoustonAstros garden pole is very popular too, so the new style will keep members busy for a while.

If you would like to help with this production, give Senior Connections a call. If you have any 4x4 posts laying around, the center would ask that you let them know and they will come pick them up to keep this project going.

The upcoming Lunch & Learn Series speakers for the remainder of May will be:

• Monday, May 22, Terri Wagner, Director of the Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce, will be here to update seniors on what’s coming up and going on in the area.

• The center will be closed on Monday, May 29 for Memorial Day.

Senior Connections mission is to enhance the quality of life for the seniors we serve, and with continued support, the center can provide for elders and keep them as independent as possible. Contact the Senior Connections center at (979) 973-3227 for more information.
