We have a whole new year in front of us and we are all really looking forward to seeing what 2023 will bring. Right now, the Senior Connections calendar for January is looking quite exciting, with a good, first-run movie scheduled early in the month at the Lyric Theater in Flatonia that includes lunch at Darlin’s Diner too.

Our Creative Arts Program kicks off with a collaborative partnership at the Schulenburg Arts Campus on Friday, Jan. 20. We will meet at their facility, from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. each Friday, for a 12-week “Seniors Artful Fridays” with Program Director, Stephanie Shroyer. There is no charge for this program and all materials will be provided.

A group stayed after on Mondays and decided to provide baked goods and cookies for law enforcement teams over the holidays. Senior Connections took up a collection and donated two dozen fruit kolaches to the Schulenburg Police Dept. on a rainy night before Thanksgiving for those officers who were working the night shifts. Next, they stayed over to bake cookies/goodies for the officers at work over the 2022 Christmas and New Year’s weekends.

Officer Chris Kalina joined some of our members on the Thursday before New Year’s Eve to pick up some goodies the group had baked. Clara Christ, Cynthia Myer, Judy Klesel and Aileen Kasper were in attendance and presented the platter to Officer Kalina on behalf of the group and Senior Connections. More distributions of goodies will be made to other law enforcement teams.

Senior Connections are currently open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, with our ARTS programs starting on Fridays, from 10 a.m. to noon, on Jan. 20. We play dominoes, visit socially with each other, we share a communal meal then we have our informational speakers come in on Mondays and we play some raucous Bingo on Wednesday, right after lunch, at noon.

On Monday, Jan. 16, Ed Janecka, local author and former Fayette County Judge, will be the Lunch and Learn guest speaker.

The monthly calendar is available online at www.srconnections. org.
