Senior Connections Hears from Former Judge Ed Janecka

Senior Connections Hears from Former Judge Ed Janecka

Members had such a great week at Senior Connections from great speakers, to the awesome company of friends and neighbors, a warm shared meal with each other, and some group outings.

Former Fayette County Judge Ed Janecka was the Lunch and Learn Series guest speaker that had a riveted audience. He is a man of many stories and he is a good storyteller. Everyone seemed to know him and he knew many of the folks in the room as well. Janecka did bring a few copies of his latest book and several members purchased copies to take home and enjoy.

The center is working on the February calendar and is happy to have some new activities to market. Twelve participants have signed up for this program and everyone got off to a great start on their mosaic project. Stephanie Shroyer, instructor, said she is going to make “mosaic maniacs” out of us. The Creative Arts Program started off with a bang at the Schulenburg Arts Campus on Friday, Jan. 20. We will be meeting there, at their facility, from 10 to 12 noon each Friday, for a 12-weeks “Seniors Artful Fridays” with Program Director, Stephanie Shroyer, and we are so excited about this opportunity. The Program is now full and we have started a waiting list for others who may want to join us.

Next on the list of outings is another innovative event, which is already full. “The Great Gatsby” is back for a special showing in Columbus on Saturday, Feb. 11, and we have purchased 8 tickets to attend the performance. We were surprised when a sponsor contacted us to semi-sponsor this event, which includes an Italian dinner and the show.

We’ll probably be planning another movie outing later in the month. Perhaps we’ll venture into Bastrop or Shiner for a movie and lunch for a change of scenery and check out some new places to eat lunch.

The center is currently open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays, with our ARTS programs starting on Fridays, from 10 a.m. to noon, on Jan. 20. We play dominoes, visit socially with each other, we share a communal meal then we have our informational speakers come in on Mondays and we play some raucous Bingo on Wednesday, right after lunch, at noon. The phone number is (979) 743-3227 if you need some more information.
