On two Thursdays a month, an enthusiastic group of older folks can be found playing dominoes and other games at the Randolph Recreation Center. They are part of the La Grange Senior Citizens Activity Center. Game days were started in 2024 and have seen a steady increase in participants. They are held the second and fourth Thursdays each month from 9-11:30. There are tables with regular, 42, and 84 games, plus a lively table of Chicken Foot. Recently other games have been played including Rummikub and Skyjo. Snacks, coffee, and water are available, too. Liz Tannler keeps the group organized by sending out reminders and having participants sign up to bring the snacks. Liz says, “For a fun morning, come join the group of your friends and neighbors.”

The organization also holds two membership meetings each year at the Randolph Gym, with the spring one coming up on April 16. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. Those who register before the start of the business meeting at 10:30 a.m. will be entered in the door prize drawing. The business meeting, led by group president, Phil Oestreich, will include election of several new members to the board of directors as well as other updates and business items. Phil encourages everyone to “please join us as we discuss future directions.” The business meeting will be followed by the guest speaker, Larry Jackson, chair of the America 250 events in Fayette County. He will share details about the many activities planned throughout the county for our nation’s Semiquincentennial. Special music will be provided by Zack Novak. Attendees will enjoy lunch at 11:30 a.m. Anyone 50 and older is invited to attend and join the organization. Membership dues are $10 and the meal is $5. The meal is $10 for attendees who aren’t members. In the spirit of the 250 celebration, attendees are encouraged to wear red, white, and/or blue.

Attendees may sign up for the Spring day trip to the Spoetzl Brewery in May for lunch and a tour. More details will be available on the 16th. The fall trip is currently being planned.

It will be to the Brookwood Community in Brookshire for a tour, lunch, and shopping.
