Schulenburg Native Headlines UT Event Here

The Fayette County Texas Exes hosted their annual scholarship fundraiser on March 7 at the Round Top Rifle Association Hall. Special guest speaker Ms. Arleas Upton Kea, President & Chair of the Texas Exes Board of Directors—and a proud Schulenburg native—made the trip from Washington, D.C. to join the celebration.

Current University of Texas students and scholarship recipients Landon von Minden, Chris Ramirez, and Arely Lopez shared heartfelt words of gratitude and offered updates on their academic journeys since receiving their awards.

The Fayette County Texas Exes began awarding scholarships in 1976, and since its inception they have awarded over 100 scholarships totaling more than $250,000. In most years, the organization provides $12,000–$20,000 in scholarships to local students, continuing a long tradition of supporting the next generation of Longhorns.

The program concluded with an exciting community announcement: throughout the month of March, the Fayette County Texas Exes will host a supply drive benefiting the Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter.

They will be collecting the following items: Bleach, Window cleaner, Disinfectant wipes, Latex gloves, 409 / Lysol disinfectant cleaner, Paper towels, 35 gallon trash bags, 55 gallon heavy duty (2ml) trash bags, Puppy pads, Copy paper, Postit notes, Dry erase markers, Sharpies.

Donations can be dropped off at the following locations during the month of March: Jones Insurance Services, 357 N Jefferson St, La Grange Texas One Stop, 1704 E State Highway 71 Bypass, La Grange Round Top Real Estate, 101 Main St, Round Top Shorty’s, 8902 FM 153, Winchester Flatonia Baptist Church, 225 E 6th St, Flatonia Schulenburg Family Fitness Center, 145 Regency Ave, Schulenburg Joe’s Place, 120 N Live Oak St, Fayetteville Orsak’s Cafe, 121 W Fayette St, Fayetteville Vintage Rose Market, 124 N Live Oak St, Fayetteville Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter has been serving Fayette County since 1994. They take in an average of 1,500 dogs and cats annually, and work tirelessly to enrich the lives of those in their care until they can find a new loving forever home.
