Schulenburg Gas Stations Continue To Have the Cheapest Fuel Around
The gas war in Schulenburg shows no sign of subsiding as competition for cheap gas enters its fourth week.
Hostilities broke out over the July 4th holiday weekend when the new Texan convenience store opened at the corner of US 77 and Interstate 10. The Texan slashed prices for regular unleaded to under $4 a gallon at the beginning of last month. Its two neighbors at the busy intersection, Hitching Post Valero Station and Pilot Truck Stop, soon followed suit.
Since then, Pilot appears content lagging behind the other two on gas prices, although ample 18-wheeler traffic keeps its diesel pumps flowing.
Hitching Post, on the other hand, has emerged as a worthy competitor to the shiny new Texan store. Gas at the Valero has beaten the Texan by a few cents for the past two weeks. On Sunday, July 31, prices for regular unleaded were $3.36 at the Hitching Post vs. $3.39 at the Texan. Elsewhere in the area, prices are just beginning to dip below $4 a gallon.
