Save the Faison House Auction Social Sunday

The Faison Preservation Society cordially invites you to our Save The Faison House Auction Social on Sunday, Nov. 13, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Historic Casino Hall, 254 N. Jefferson, La Grange, Texas. Admission is free. Light refreshments will be served. Music by Larry Ripper. Free-will donations are greatly appreciated.

“Living history is not solely an objective retelling of historical facts,” Arnold Romberg, President of the Faison Preservation Society, explained. “Its importance lies more in presenting visitors with a sense of a way of life, accurate in every detail. To do this you need an environment, an historic home filled with artifacts and tales of the people who lived their lives within the walls and surrounding community.”

To this end, several of the Faison House residents have agreed to be present to tell their intriguing stories. Visit with them, chat with them, ask questions. N.W. Faison: Came to Texas to seek his fortune prior to 1840. By his death in 1870 at the age of 52, he owned over 50,000 acres of land, $4,700 in gold, and 30 men owed him money.

Louisiana Brown: One of the first freedwomen in Texas to own property. Learn how this shrewd businesswoman took advantage of opportunities presented to her.

Maria Faison: Hear the story of this unhappy woman who hated La Grange, tragically dying at the age of 26.

Percy Faison: The family black sheep. You’ve got to hear his story. We aren’t making this stuff up.

The house, at 822 South Jefferson in La Grange is open to the public Saturdays from noon to four and by special request. Admission is free.
