Safety Concerns Temporarily Close Dollar General
The Dollar General Store in Schulenburg was forced to shut down last Friday, Jan. 6, due to an electrical problem.
Schulenburg Police Chief Troy Brenek said the problem stemmed from issues with the store’s main electrical box. He said Dollar General corporate officials had set up a generator and were powering the store with extension cords while attempting repairs.
“They are in violation of city ordinance for operating while not having power,” Brenek said on Friday. “They also haven’t pulled a permit for the work. We are working with them to make this operable today.”
He said the City’s code enforcement department shut down the store over safety concerns.
“This is not a local employee situation,” Brenek said. “It’s a failure on the corporate side.”
Power was restored to the store and it reopened for business this week.
