Sacred Heart Altar Society Met March 6

The Sacred Heart Altar Society members met on Monday, March 6, in the Msgr. Harry Mazurkiewicz Parish Center. The meeting was opened with a prayer followed by the standard reports by the secretary, treasurer, and assistant treasurer. Seventeen ladies attended the meeting. There was no correspondence to be read.

Under the Spirituality Commission, President Karen Janda reminded everyone about the Lenten Women’s Gathering taking place in March. Other dates remembered included the Lenten Penance Service at Sacred Heart and the Stations of the Cross led by Altar Society members. Members were reminded to keep prayer, fasting and almsgiving part of our daily activities during the season of Lent.

The Church Preparation Co-Chair Earline Trlicek reported that holy water bottles had been ordered for Holy Saturday. It was decided during the last Liturgy meeting that Lenten preparations would be the same as the previous year with Holy Thursday adoration held at the Center meeting room.

The flower committee chairperson, Judy Langhamer reported that Easter Lilies, Kalanchoes and Caladiums have been ordered for the altars at Easter. If caladiums are not available, mums will be provided as a replacement. A bulletin announcement is on going for donations to be accepted. Peggy Sulik and Altar Society volunteers continue to care for the vestments and altar cloths as needed.

Under the Service Commission, Nina Blaha gave her report on the donations to the Clerical Endowment Fund for the month of February. Barbara Schellberg reported that no CEF Enrollments had been sent by the Altar Society during the previous month. Judy Langhamer informed members that no funeral lunches had been served during the previous month and gave the financial report of the Parish Council of Catholic Women. Anna Boyd informed members that Sacred Heart volunteers were scheduled at Second Chance during the week beginning March 7-13.

Under the Leadership Commission, Trish Pechal reported that three new membership applications had been approved during the previous month. It was also reported that the last meeting report had been sent to the Fayette County Record.

Under unfinished business the bakeless bake sale fundraiser was held through March. Donations were given to the treasurer or dropped in the collection basket. Dues were due in January. Earline has a letter ready to send to members who remain unpaid from 2019 through 2022. Members will be asked to submit payment of past due dues by June 1 to remain active.

Under new business, Volunteers were taken to assist with the Stations of the Cross. A handout was made available for additional help needed for various duties and responsibilities of the Altar Society. Members were asked to please consider helping as they are able.

The ADCCW Convention will be held at the Doubletree Hotel in Austin on April 17-18. The theme for the Convention is “That They All May Be One”. Anyone willing to attend is to let Karen know so that the proper arrangements can be made.

President Janda expressed her thanks to family members who had recently included the Altar Society in memorial donations when their loved ones passed away. Members are urged to let family members know to include the Altar Society as a memorial donation at their passing.

Having no further business to discuss, attendance prizes were drawn and distributed. President Karen Janda led the members in a closing prayer and the meeting was adjourned. The next regularly scheduled meeting was held on Monday, April 3.
