Sacred Heart Altar Society Meets Nov. 7

The Sacred Heart Altar Society members met on Monday, Nov. 7, in the Msgr. Harry Mazurkiewicz Parish Center. The meeting was opened with a prayer followed by the standard financial reports. Fifteen ladies attended the meeting.

One thank you note was read for remembrances received during the previous month.

The Church Preparation Co-Chair ladies reported that many positive comments had been received on the All Souls Table in the Narthax remembering deceased loved ones. They continue to carry out the duties of the altar as needed. The flower committee chairperson Judy Langhamer reported that a notice will be posted in the bulletin to accept donations for poinsettias for the Christmas Season. The flower list will also need to be revised to request that flowers remain on the altar through Friday following the weekend Mass. It was reported that Peggy Sulik continues to care for the vestments and altar cloths as needed.

Under the Service Commission, Nina Blaha was unavailable to give her report but Judy reported on the donations to the Clerical Endowment Fund as reported at the recent Deanery meeting. It was noted that Christmas CEF enrollment cards are now available. Barbara Schellberg reported on CEF Enrollments that had been made during the previous month. Visitation to the sick and home bound has not yet resumed and no funeral lunches had been served during the previous month. Anna Boyd reported that Sacred Heart would serve as volunteers at Second Chance beginning November 29 thru December 5 and encouraged anyone to volunteer whenever possible.

Under the Leadership Commission, it was reported that there were no new members at this time. It was also reported that the last meeting report had been sent to the Fayette County Record.

Under unfinished business Langhamer gave a report on the Deanery meeting held in Rockdale during the previous month. Thirty-three individuals attended including three clergy and two guests. The usual reports were given including a report that the NCCW Convention will be held in Bastrop on April 17-18, 2023. The next Deanery meeting will be on Jan. 24, 2023 at St. Mary’s in Brenham. Members were encouraged to attend the Mass for living and deceased members of the Altar Society on Dec. 4, at Sacred Heart.

Under new business, Doris Lidiak asked for additional volunteers to provide cookies to be delivered to parishioners who are shut ins during the Christmas season. Cookies can be brought to the Church Narthex between the hours of 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 5. Additional volunteers are also needed to assist with delivery of bags. Karen asked for a volunteer to head up the nominating committee for the 2023 slate of officers since various positions will need to be filled. No one came forward, however, various members volunteered to fill positions. The new slate will be presented at the next meeting.

Having no further business to discuss, attendance prizes were drawn and distributed. President Karen Janda led the members in a closing prayer and the meeting was adjourned at 6:15 p.m.

The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held on Monday, Dec. 5, beginning at 5:45 p.m.
