Sacred Heart Altar Society Meets

The Sacred Heart Altar Society members met on Monday Dec. 5, in the Msgr. Harry Mazurkiewicz Parish Center. The meeting was opened with a prayer followed by the distribution of the minutes from the last meeting and the report by the Assistant Treasurer. She reported that several members remained unpaid for dues dating back to 2020 and would therefore be removed from the membership roster. Twelve ladies attended the December meeting.

One thank you note was read for remembrances received during the previous month and a verbal thank you was also heard.

Spirituality Chair Debbie Greene reported on days to remember for events happening in our Parish including the Holy Day of Obligation on December 8 and the Penance Service prior to Christmas. She also reported that the Bible Study was on going.

The Church Preparation Co-Chair ladies reported that Christmas decorating in the church would begin the week of Dec. 19. Volunteers to assist with the decorating would be the usual groups. The flower committee chairperson, Judy Langhamer reported that poinsettias had been ordered and noted that donations for poinsettias were coming in at a generous pace. The flower list is still in the process of being updated. It was reported that Peggy Sulik continues to care for the vestments and altar cloths as needed. Elaine Bodine has taken over the responsibility for care of the altar server cassocks.

Under the Service Commission, Nina Blaha was unavailable to give her report but Judy reported that Christmas CEF enrollment cards are now available and brought some to the meeting for members to take as needed. One get well card had been sent out during the previous month and Karen volunteered to send one out to a member in need. Visitation to the sick and home bound has not yet resumed. Judy reported that one funeral lunch had been served during the previous month and also reported on donations received and expenses paid by the funeral lunch committee. Carol Svrcek reported that Second Chance had been extremely busy especially after the Thanksgiving Holiday closures and encouraged anyone to volunteer whenever possible.

Under the Leadership Commission, it was reported that there were no new members at this time. It was also reported that the last meeting report had been sent to the Fayette County Record.

Under unfinished business, Doris Lidiak reported that the Cookies for the Homebound project went very well with plenty of cookies available for all recipients with some left over. These were distributed to the School and Church for the teachers and administrative personnel to enjoy with some still left over and distributed where needed. The new slate of officers was presented at this meeting as follows: President-Karen Janda, Vice President-Carol Svrcek, Secretary-Trish Pechal, Assistant Secretary-Marian Tajchman, Treasurer-Anna Boyd, Assistant Treasurer-Earline Trlicek, and Parliamentarian-Gracie Fucik. Since there were no nominations from the floor, the slate was elected as presented. The last item discussed under old business was the need for increased membership and possible ways to bring attention to the ladies of the Parish who are not currently members.

Under new business, gifts for Father Brian and Kyle Janda who is our deaconate candidate were discussed and decided. Karen thanked those who had set up the Advent wreath and hung wreaths in the church and on the entrance doors. The possibility of holding a social in January was discussed, however members decided to hold off on this for the January meeting. Having no further business to discuss, attendance prizes were drawn and distributed. President Karen Janda led the members in a closing prayer and the meeting was adjourned.

The next regularly scheduled meeting will be moved to Monday, Jan. 9, 2023 beginning at 5:45 p.m. to allow for the New Year’s Day holiday on Jan. 2.
