Sacred Heart Altar Society Meets
The Sacred Heart Altar Society members met on Monday Oct. 3, in the Msgr. Harry Mazurkiewicz Parish Center.
The meeting was opened with a prayer followed by the standard financial and organizational reports. Ten ladies attended the meeting.
One thank you note was read for remembrances received during the previous month.
Under the Spirituality Commission, President Janda reminded ladies of the Blessing of the Pets to take place during the month and of the November 1 All Saints Day Mass featuring the Pre-K students’ depiction of various saints. The Church Preparation Co-Chair ladies had nothing new to report at this time. They continue to carry out the duties of the altar as needed. The flower committee chairperson, Judy Langhamer reported that flowers continue to be donated by members of the Society and that no volunteers had come forward to add to the flower list. It was reported that Peggy Sulik continues to care for the vestments and altar cloths as needed.
Under the Service Commission, Nina Blaha gave her report on the donations to the Clerical Endowment Fund during the previous month. She also reported that four charity and sick cards had been sent since the last meeting. Barbara Schellberg reported on CEF Enrollments that had been made during the previous month. Visitation to the sick and home bound has not yet resumed and no funeral lunches had been served during the previous month. Anna Boyd reported on the dates in October that Sacred Heart would serve as volunteers at Second Chance and encouraged anyone to volunteer whenever possible.
Under the Leadership Commission, it was reported that there were no new members at this time. It was also reported that the last meeting report had been sent to the Fayette County Record.
Under unfinished business President Janda thanked everyone who helped with and donated to the after Mass social hosted by the Altar Society on Oct. 2. It was reported that the funeral lunch committee would be meeting the following week to determine if two groups would be sufficient to meet the need. Groups will continue to prepare sandwiches for funerals with less than 75 people and request catering services provided by the family when groups are expected to exceed 75. Karen and Earline will continue to assist with altar flower maintenance until such time that Marian can take over.
Under new business, the October Deanery meeting to be held in Rockdale was announced. The date of the Mass for living and deceased members of the Altar Society has been set. It will be Dec. 4. Dates for the Altar Society to host the after Mass socials during the 2023 year were announced as April 16 and October 8. Doris Lidiak reminded members that cookies would again be provided to shut ins during the Christmas season. A porcelain cross will be included in the gift bag. More information will be coming once the date is set.
Having no further business to discuss, attendance prizes were drawn and distributed. President Janda led the members in a closing prayer and the meeting was adjourned at 6:15 p.m.
The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held on Monday, Nov. 7 beginning at 5:45 p.m.
