Sacred Heart Altar Society Holds Meeting
The Sacred Heart Altar Society members met on Monday, Oct. 2, in the Msgr. Harry Mazurkiewicz Parish Center. The meeting was opened with a prayer followed by the standard reports by the secretary, treasurer, and assistant treasurer. Eleven ladies attended the meeting.
Under the Spirituality Commission, important dates to remember were noted by new chair Marian Tajchman. These included various Feast Days, along with the fact that October is the month of the Holy Rosary. A very informative report was given by Marian on the origination of the Feast Day of the Holy Rosary on Oct. 7 by Pope Pius V in the year 1571. October is also Respect Life Month and all are encouraged to participate in the Baby Banks Campaign which support various Pro-Life ministries in the Diocese. Finally, October is recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month and all are encouraged to pray for those whose lives have been affected by cancer. The Church Preparation Co-Chair Earline Trlicek spoke about the schedule for All Souls Day masses and noted that a table would once again be set up in the Narthex honoring deceased family members.
Parishioners are encouraged to bring pictures for display. It was noted that the flower groups continue to provide flowers for the altar on a weekly basis and that the flower list for the upcoming year is in process. Peggy Sulik and Altar Society volunteers continue to care for the vestments and altar cloths as needed.
Under the Service Commission, April Feray is assisting Nina Blaha with the Enrollments received by the Clerical Endowment Fund while Nina is unable to serve. It was also noted that a replacement will be needed to send out get well cards while Nina is unavailable to do so. There were no funeral lunches or CEF Enrollments sent during the previous month. Anna Boyd informed members about the work schedule for Sacred Heart volunteers serving at Second Chance and encouraged anyone to volunteer whenever possible.
Under the Leadership Commission, Trish Pechal reported that there were no new members at this time and that the last meeting report had been sent to the Fayette County Record.
Under unfinished business Karen updated members on the CEF Enrollments presented to Father Brian and Kyle Janda for Priesthood Sunday. Karen also informed members that she had booked the Sacred Heart Center for the ECCW meeting that will be hosted by La Grange in January 2024. She reminded members that the Altar Society would be hosting the social after Mass on the following Sunday and confirmed that the kolaches and pigs had been ordered. Members are welcome to bring sweets or to donate to the purchase of needed food items.
President Karen Janda led the members in a closing prayer and the meeting was adjourned.
