Round Top July 4 Parade Set for Monday
The members of the Round Top Rifle Association will present the 172nd annual July 4th Parade and Celebration on Monday, July 4. According to the Rifle Association, the first celebration took place 1851, and the parade and festivities have been ongoing without pause ever since, even through the dark days of the American Civil War.
The Round Top 4th of July parade has been voted the best parade in Fayette County by the readers of the Fayette County Record. Festivities begin on the Town Square at 10 a.m. with the National Anthem, followed by remarks from local dignitaries and special guest speaker, State Senator Lois Kolkhorst.
At 10:30 a.m., the Round Top cannon will loudly signal the start of the parade, which will wind its way through the streets of Round Top and end at the Round Rifle Association Grounds.
Rifle Association members will start tending to the barbecue pits at midnight to ensure a tasty noon meal of chicken, sausage and all the trimmings. Also available, by special order only, are beef brisket and pork butts to be purchased separately from the meal. Serving begins at 11:30 a.m. A drive thru meal pickup is also available. Call (979) 249-7335 to place your special order for the beef and pork.
Musical entertainment from the pavilion will be by the Round Top Brass Band, featuring patriotic music, as well as good old polkas, waltzes and marches. Cool Freddie and the Gang will share the stage, presenting patriotic and current popular music. Also, a jam session with some very fine accordion players will be on hand. Entertainment ends at 4 p.m.
The Rifle Association hopes to see you in Round Top for this spectacular event. Learn more at www.roundtoprifle.com or look up the Round Top Rifle Hall on Facebook.
