Round Top Family Library Offers Variety of Community Events This Spring
A Classic Car Show benefitting the RTFL will be held at Busted Oaks Cellar on Saturday, April 11 from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Open Mic Poetry Night will be held Thursday, April 16 at 7 p.m. The library is happy to announce they have a full program of poets for the evening and expect the program to last 90 minutes with a wonderful reception to follow. Everyone is invited to come and listen to poets reading a variety of poetry. The event is free and open to the public.
Louie Sellers leads a wonderful Acoustic Jam Session on the third Saturday each month in the main library. Join these wonderful musicians or just drop in to listen to great music. The next session will be held on Saturday, April 18, starting at 11:30 a.m.
The Bluebonnet Mahjong Society meets at the historic Rummel Haus at Round Top Family Library every Thursday from 12:30 - 3:30 p.m. for open play. Private mahjong lessons are available by contacting the library at (979) 249-2700.
Round Top Family Library offers muscle training classes known as “Falling Is Not an Option” led by John Bone. Every Tuesday and Friday in the main library, you can join either the 7:30 a.m. class or the 9 a.m. class. All fitness levels are welcome to attend. Just bring a towel and a water bottle and get ready to work up a great sweat and strengthen your core and focus on great balance skills. These muscle strengthening classes are in addition to yoga classes that are offered on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays making RTFL your go-to for five days of fitness each week. Round Top Family Library is honoring the amazing volunteers that help make all programs and events a reality. A reception to honor volunteers is scheduled for Friday, April 24, under the live oak trees at the beautiful library campus. Everyone is welcome. Come out to say thank you to our amazing volunteers and if you are a volunteer, please attend to receive the appreciation you so warmly deserve.
RTFL’s FYI Presents … an evening of history, storytelling, and a little adventure with returning speaker Jane Wood on Thursday, May 14 at 7 p.m. In celebration of our country’s 250th year, Jane is back to share more insights on the Lewis and Clark Expedition— including a fascinating new Texas connection you won’t want to miss. Stacy and her beloved Newfoundland dog, Ri, are making a return, too.
There are still a few spots available if you would like to sign your children up for any of RTFL’s Summer Camps. They have an incredible offering of classes including animal science, arts and literacy, arts and crafts, cooking, creative writing, gardening, life skills, science club and theater. Round Top-Carmine 4-H
The RT-C 4-H club will be holding a cat-dog vaccination clinic on May 7 from 5-6 p.m. at the Round Top Rifle Association Hall and from 6:15-7 p.m. at the Carmine Hall. A Rabies shot (dog or cat) will be $12 per pet. Full workups will be available, too. A dog DHLP + Rabies will be $46. A cat FVRCP + Rabies will be $56. A rattlesnake vaccine will run $20.
RT-C ISD
The RT-C baseball team will travel to Little River Academy High School to play Blum at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 11.
The Regional Golf Tournament will be held on April 13-14. RT-C hosts Snook at 5 p.m. for a double-header on April 15.
The Area Track Meet will take place in Fayetteville on April 16 for the High School track students.
The District Golf Results are in. The RT-C Girls Teams placed First & Second. Avery Nelius was a First Place Medalist. Angie LeBouef placed second. The RT-C Boys Team finished as Regional Qualifiers.
RT Rifle Association Hall Monday, April 13, will be “Monday Night Burgers.” The Round Top Rifle Association hosts the Monday night social on the first, second, and third Mondays of each month for community fellowship. Volunteers serve classic burgers, hot dogs, breaded chicken sandwiches, fries and onion rings. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with food served from 6-8 p.m. The hall has an open bar with drinks for sale. Proceeds benefit the Round Top Rifle Association. Homemade desserts are available each Monday by various charity organizations to help raise money for their individual causes. The community is invited.
“Second Chance” Volunteers This group of Round Top area volunteers donate their time every six weeks at the Second Chance Emporium in La Grange, partnering with the Shared Lutheran Ministry congregations. The next upcoming opportunity to volunteer at Second Chance will be April 14-18. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Sherry Pennington at (512) 626-5754. Donations can be dropped off at Second Chance in La Grange on Mondays through Saturdays from 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
RT-C Education Foundation On April 16, the RT-C Education Foundation Board of Directors will meet for their quarterly meeting at 8 a.m. at the Round Top Elementary School.
Town of Round Top
The Town of Round Top has notified its’ citizens about a Candidate Forum which will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, at the Round Top Christian Church Fellowship, located at 440 E. Mill Street in Round Top. Three Round Top alderman candidates will be present to answer voters’ questions. They are David Barr, Brooke Michie, Lou Ann Phillips. Citizens can submit questions in writing upon arrival to the moderator, Matthew Diehl. New and follow-up questions can also be submitted to the moderator during a break before the last half of the forum. The meeting will end no later than 4 p.m.
C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation Volunteers are still needed to help with the “C.A.S.T. for Kids” event on May 9 at Camp Journey in Bellville from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. This is a free fishing event for children and adults with special needs. Bethlehem Lutheran Church On April 12, Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Round Top will hold Sunday morning worship service with communion at 9:30 a.m. Pastor John David Nedbalek will be officiating. Come early for their monthly donuts, coffee, and fellowship at 8:30 a.m. in the Education Building.
On April 2, Ruth Circle met in the BLC Education Building. Kathy Schatte served as the hostess for the April meeting. Joys Baird led the bible study titled “God the Protector: Gate & Shepherd.” She emphasized the importance of knowing that Jesus is our gate, our protector, our guide, and our good shepherd, and those who believe in him are his flock. All are welcome to enter the gate and join the flock. All we need to do is receive the shepherd’s welcome, which is given freely and without condition. Ladies in attendance were Joys Baird, Sherry Pennington, Kathy Schatte, Pearlie Wagner, Julie Wantland, and Sedalia Ullrich. Pastor John David Nedbalek was also present.
Several women from BLC plan to attend the Women of ELCA Western Cluster Spring Gathering on Saturday, April 18, at St. Paul Luther Church in Columbus. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with brunch, and the program begins at 9 a.m. Dr. Maxie Leftwich, LCSW Emeritus, President of The Wellness Council of Greater Colorado Valley, will be the speaker for the event. On May 3, Bethlehem Lutheran Church will be holding their annual fundraiser at the Round Top Rifle Association Hall. At 10 a.m., there will be a lively polka and praise service, and from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., a fried chicken meal will be served. Tickets are $18 per plate. The church is also holding a raffle with 36 prizes. The drawing will be held on May 3 at the annual chicken fry. Raffle ticket prices are $20 each or 3 for $50. Raffle and/or meal tickets can be purchased at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church office, Round Top State Bank, Round Top Mercantile, or from any BLC church member.
St. John Lutheran Church St. John Lutheran Church in Warrenton will hold their Sunday morning worship service on April 5 at 8:30 a.m.
St. Paul Lutheran Church St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Shelby will hold their Sunday morning worship service on April 12 at 8:30 a.m. with worship and communion. Fellowship, coffee, and Sunday School will follow at 9:30 a.m.
St. Martin Catholic Church Visit the world’s smallest active Catholic Church, one mile east of Warrenton at 3490 State Hwy 237, Round Top. Mass is celebrated the first Tuesday of each month at 8 a.m., and open daily for visitors and private prayer.
