Round Top and Flatonia Mayors Are Not Running for Re-Election

Ballots for the municipal elections on May 4 are starting to take shape with several recent filings. The period to file for a place on the ballot opened on Wednesday, Jan. 17. The deadline to file is next Friday, Feb. 16, by 5 p.m.

La Grange School Board

La Grange ISD will hold elections for two places on the Board of Trustees. Listed below are the seats up for election and the incumbents: Place 6 - Calvin Mersiovsky Place 7 - Dr. Karen Roberts Both of the incumbents have filed, along with Ryan W. Kleiber, who will face Mersiovsky for the Place 6 seat.

City of La Grange

The City of La Grange will hold elections for four places on the City Council, which are listed below along with the incumbents:

• Ward 1 - Kathy Weishuhn

• Ward 2 - Violet Zbranek

• Ward 3 - Kim Newton

• Ward 4 - Bryan Kerr Weishuhn, Zbranek and Kerr are the only to file so far.

City of Schulenburg

The City of Schulenburg will hold elections for three places on the City Council. Listed below are the seats up for elections and the incumbents: 

• Place 3 - Scott Stoner

• Place 4 - Clarence Ahlschlager • Place 5 - Larry Veselka The only candidate to file so far is Clarence Ahlschlager.

City of Flatonia

The City of Flatonia will hold elections for Mayor and two at-large positions on the City Council. Listed below are the current officeholders:

• Mayor Dennis Geesaman

• Councilwoman Joanye Eversole

• CouncilmanAllen Kocian Incumbents Allen Kocian and Joanye Eversol have filed for re-election. Josh Homan has also filed for election to the Council. Only one person has filed for election as Mayor, Travis Seale. The current Mayor, Dennis Geesaman, has stated he will not run.

City of Fayetteville

The City of Fayetteville will hold elections for three places on the City Council. Listed below are the seats up for elections and the incumbents:

• Place 1 - Neal Doty

• Place 3 - Kathy Griffith

• Place 5 - Pam Fritsch Reynolds No one has yet filed for a place on the Fayetteville ballot.

The City of Fayetteville will also hold a special election for renewal of a street maintenance tax ¼ of 1% for street maintenance. An election must take place every four years for the tax to continue.

Town of Round Top

The Town of Round Top will hold elections for Mayor and two at-large places on the Town Council. Listed below are the current officeholders:

• Mayor Mark Massey

• Alderman Owen Massey

• Alderman Lynn Conine So far, Judith Vincent filed to run for Mayor. Karen Duddelson and Owen Massey have filed to run for alderman. Mayor Mark Massey said he will not run for re-election.

“I’ve loved the job,” Massey told the Record this week. “It’s been a blast. We have an amazing crew. But my wife and I just had a baby girl, and my priority has shifted to my daughter and family, along with my other projects in Round Top.

“I may revisit the mayorship in the future,” he added. “I’ll still be heavily involved around town.”

City of Ellinger

The City of Ellinger will hold an election for one of the commissioner positions on the City Commission. The incumbent is Kenny Stojanik. Stojanik is the only candidate to file so far.
