Students with Greater Vision Team School participated in the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo Art Contest for their third year, competing against entries from over 50 other private and parochial schools in the Houston and surrounding areas. GVTS is a local Christian homeschool co-op that meets at Lutherhill Camp & Retreat. Our co-op is able to participate as a private school, which allows us to submit 10 entries for our Elementary, 10 entries for Junior High, and 10 for our High School.
Three GVTS students received special awards for their entries. Phoenix Kooper (high school) received a Gold Medal for his oil painting titled “The Pioneer.” Jaycee Zapalac (junior high) received a Gold Medal for her 3-D sculpture titled “Essence of Texas.”
Aubri Bernsen (high school) received recognition as a Finalist for her watercolor painting titled “The Meeting Place.” Kooper and Zapalac’s art pieces will be on display in the Hayloft Gallery for the remainder of the HLSR.
Kooper’s painting was also selected as one of the 72 works of art (among both public and private schools) to be auctioned off this weekend on March 10th. After the exhibitor receives a premium, net proceeds from the auction goes towards scholarships and educational programs for Texas youth.
