Retired Teachers Hold Meeting
The Fayette County Retired Teachers’ Association met on Monday, Nov. 13, at the Fellowship Hall of the New Life Methodist Church (formerly First United Methodist Church) in La Grange, with 19 in attendance. Refreshments were provided by Lisa Slinkard and executive officers.
The business portion of the meeting included distribution of a list of additions/ corrections to FCRTA yearbook 2023-2024 (distributed at the Sept. meeting), and the Treasurer’s Report, which included a Budget Proposal FCRTA 2023-2024. The September minutes, and the Treasurer’s report were accepted. Joan Miertschin, Community Services Chair, reminded all to begin collecting/ documenting volunteer hours for 2023, which will be due by the January meeting. The passage of Proposition 9 was done, in part, by the tremendous volume of volunteer hours, and their impact on the state’s economy. Lisa Slinkard, FCRTA President, called attention to the reverse side of the distributed minutes, which stated the District 13 plan for implementing legislative strategies for the TRTA Two-year calendar.
New Business: Fayette County RTA has received a $200 check from the state TRTA for coming in 2nd place for total growth. Fayette County elections will be in 2024 for the offices of First Vice President, Second Vice President, Secretary. All present were reminded that the January 2024 meeting will be for collecting snack-sized items for distribution to the active teachers in all Fayette County schools.
Time was given for all to view the donated items given to benefit the TRTA Foundation, which gives scholarships to new teachers, and financially supports retired teachers in need of funds. Drawings were held for New Members (H-EB gift card won by Jaci Elliott), and for Retention Members (local dues paid, won by Chris Morrison), Important dates to remember: TRTA State Convention: April 15-17, 2024, Corpus Christi.
