Responders Worked Through Language Barrier to Help French-Speaking Accident Victims
A couple from Quebec who were riding a motorcycle suffered serious injuries in a crash in Schulenburg on Saturday, April 15.
Schulenburg Police Chief Troy Brenek said the couple were riding a 2021 Honda GL180 three-wheeled motorcycle. Brenek said they were part of a group of approximately 50-60 other motorcyclists from Quebec, Canada who were traveling through town.
The couple was at the Hitching Post convenience store at the corner of US 77 and Interstate 10. Brenek said they traveled west through the parking lot on the north side of Hitching Post towards Schulenburg Inn and Suites (the former Best Western), where the main group of motorcycles were gathered.
The 78-year-old male driver suffered some sort of medical emergency, Brenek said. The driver passed out and rolled the trike over into a flower bed in front of the motel. Both the driver and the passenger, a 73-year-old female, suffered severe injuries.
Brenek said first responders worked through a language barrier with the group of French-speaking Canadians. Fayette County EMS transported the male and the female to Austin for hospital treatment.
