Rep. Stan Kitzman Authors Firearm Constitutional Bill

District 85 State Representative Stan Kitzman announced today that he has authored HB 3750, a bill that would exempt firearms and ammunition as well as components of a firearm from sales tax. Representative Kitzman said he believes that it is a violation of the Second Amendment to tax something integral to exercising one’s rights.

“You aren’t taxed when you speak, or go to church, or buy a newspaper in the state of Texas.

Why does this not apply to the purchase of firearms?,” said Representative Kitzman. “West Virginia passed a similar bill in 2021 (through their state legislature), and 5 other states don’t tax firearms. Now is the time for Texas to stand up for our Constitutional rights.”

HB 3750 would also continue to exempt firearm accessories and safety equipment from sales tax, including gun lock boxes, safety training manuals, and other items used in conjunction with a firearm.

Additionally, Representative Kitzman has co-authored HB 20, expanding border protections, HB 1075, protecting Texas from foreign agricultural interests, and HB 1581, enhancing the penalty for the manufacture or delivery of a controlled substance causing death or serious bodily injury.

Reaffirming his commitment to District 85, Representative Kitzman said “I will always fight for my constituents and Texans everywhere.”
