If you couldn’t find a way to celebrate Independence Day in Fayette County this week, it was your own fault.

There was the huge fireworks display and community party hosted by Frisch Auf! Valley Country Club July 3, followed by the massive celebrations in St. John and at The Remnant on July 4. One of county’s most iconic July 4th events was again held in Round Top, which bills its event as the oldest continuous Independence Day celebration West of the Mississippi River. Their 173rd annual event Tuesday drew thousands to the downtown parade and the barbeque meal that followed at the Rifle Hall.

“I always say this is real America ... the rural communities continue to be the last bastions in our country to defend our values and our standards and our work ethic and those things that make this country so great,” said former Fayette County Judge Joe Weber, from the town gazebo before the start of the parade.
