Native Prairie Grasses Available

The Fayette Prairie Chapter of the Native Prairies Association of Texas is selling 1-gallon pots of native grasses. These can be used to enhance prairie restoration efforts or cultivate beautiful pocket prairies. Available grasses are big and little bluestem, indiangrass, switchgrass, eastern gamagrass, sideoats grama, and inland seaoats. These grasses are tough and beautiful and can survive extreme heat and drought. Order now for pickup in mid-April. For more information, contact fayette@texasprairie. org.

Free Archery Fun Day in LG

New Life Methodist Church, 1215 N. Von Minden, is excited to announce a community Archery program for children and youth of all skill levels. Adults welcome on Saturday, March 21 from 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m., for a free archery fun day. Everything you need including all necessary safety gear will be provided. Adult volunteers are certified instructors, trained under the USA Archery curriculum, so you can expect clear, expert guidance. Republican Women General Meeting

The public is invited to attend the Fayette County Republican Women General Meeting on Wednesday, March 18 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Frisch Auf! Valley Country Club, 575 Country Club Drive in La Grange. Check-in begins at 10:30 a.m. Lunch is available for $20. Program speaker will be Carrie Bigford with Texans for Vaccine Choice. DMV Office Hours March 18

The Fayette County Tax Assessor Collector Office (DMV) will be closed Wednesday, March 18, for a regional meeting and training and will resume normal business hours on Thursday, March 19. Registration is also available at the substations, Farmers Insurance, 501 Summit St., Schulenburg (979) 743-2120; Napa Store, 515 N. La Grange St., Flatonia (361) 865-3900; and Round Top Mercantile, 438 N. Washington St., Round Top (979) 249-3117.

Food Pantry Thursday Hours

The AMEN Food Pantry will be open Thursday, March 19 from 4:30-6 p.m. to distribute food. Monday hours continue to be 9 a.m. - noon.

Wine & Wander White Linen Night 

Enjoy Burton’s Wine & Wander wearing white linen or any other white attire in Historic downtown Burton on Thursday, March 20 from 6-8 p.m. starting at The Texas Cotton Gin Museum. This is a free event. Guests are encouraged to dress in white, wander the town, and celebrate Burton with a touch of New Orleans flair.

The Central Texas Food Bank mobile food pantry will be at the Waldeck Lutheran Church on Saturday, March 21 from 1011 a.m. Drive through only.

Winedale Lunch & Learn

Dr. David Huenlich will share his research on the more than thirty African Americans in Texas who spoke German in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, revealing unexpected intersections between German American and African American communities during a March 24 Lunch & Learn at noon via Zoom.
