League of Women Voters Hosts Free Voter Education Event in Schulenburg
On Saturday, Aug. 8, the League of Women Voters of South Central Texas will hold a voter education event, including hands-on voting machine practice, at the Schulenburg Public Library from 10 a.m. to noon. The free, family-friendly event is part of Unite & Rise for Voting Rights, a nationwide Day of Action to mark the 61st anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson on August 6, 1965.
Community members are welcome to stop by anytime during event hours to check or update their voter registration, ask questions about voter ID rules, vote-by-mail, curbside voting, try a handson mock election on the same voting machines used on Election Day and more. Fayette County Elections Administrator Donna Macik and League volunteers will be on hand to help, and a Spanishspeaking volunteer will be available. Kids are welcome, too — they can take part in their own “Vote for Your Favorite Texas Animal” mock election while the grown-ups get voter-ready.
