The Round Top Family Library’s Junior Master Gardeners and Round Top Lions are sponsoring a food drive. Items needed are canned foods,white sugar, flour, rice and beans and boxed goods-cereal, macaroni and cheese, dry milk, stuffing mix, potatoes, jello and pudding. Boxes are locted at the Round Top Family Library, Round Top State Bank, and Round Top Coffee Shop. Donations will be collected until Feb. 29.

Hermann Sons Life Rutersville will have a game night on Thursday, Feb. 29 at 6:30 p.m. Members are asked to bring a snack and their favorite game.

Garbage Schedule

City of La Grange offices will be closed Friday, March 1 for Texas Independence Day. Waste Management will not have a holiday and will run their normal garbage schedule. If you need additional information, call (979) 968-3127.

Unservicable Flags

The American Legion Post 102 in La Grange would like to remind residents and businesses that US flags that have become unservicable may be taken to the Texas Heroes Museum at 171 S. Main Street in La Grange.

There’s more The Hostyn/Plum Scholarship Fund Fish Fry will be held Friday, March 1 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the La Grange Knights of Columbus Hall located at 190 S. Brown St. The meal is drivethru only. The meal includes fried fish and hush puppies, buttered potatoes, pinto beans, and coleslaw. Plates are $14. Meal is on a first come, first served basis. All funds benefit the Hostyn/Plum Scholarship Fund.

Lions Sealy Dance Club

The Lions Sealy Dance Club is having a dance on Saturday, March 2, at the Sealy American Legion Hall. The band, Liberty Hill, will be providing live music from 7:30 to 11:00 p.m. The public is always welcome.

All Sports Booster Club

The La Grange All Sports Booster Club will hold its monthly meeting Monday, March 4 at 5:30 p.m. in the La Grange High School Library.

The Texas Revolution is well chronicled. However, for the five thousand or so African Americans in Texas at the time, the war provided little opportunity. Did African Americans help the Texians win the war for independence hoping to be given land of their own, or did they help the invading Mexican army hoping they would be rewarded with emancipation? American Legion Quade Werchan The next regular meetings of the American Legion Quade-Werchan Post No. 338 and Ladies Auxiliary is scheduled for Thursday, March 7 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at their facilities located at 1503 N. State Highway 237 Round Top. This meeting will focus on future needs and operations of the post related to the building and property. Members will receive a mailing outlining the specific topics to be discussed. All post and auxiliary members are requested to attend their respective meetings.

Calling All Cat Lovers

Storybook Rescues, Inc., a not-for-profit animal rescue in Cat Spring, is looking for cat lovers. For two years now, since PetSmart opened a new store in Brenham on Highway 290, Storybook Rescues (SBR) has been placing kittens and adult cats there for adoption. A team of committed volunteers cares for the cats every day of the year, except for major holidays when the store is closed. SBR cats are housed in a dedicated cat room in three large “condos,” each of which can accommodate several kittens and/or adult cats. Volunteers check the condos every day, which entails cleaning litter boxes and refilling food and water bowls. All supplies are provided. When all three condos are occupied, the process takes about one hour. Taking time to play with the cats is a bonus for the cats and the volunteer, and strongly encouraged. The volunteer may go any time during store hours. Recently, two volunteers left the area, hence the urgent need for new recruits.
