Book Signing
Friends of the La Grange Railroad Museum will host a book-signing on Friday, Feb. 16, from 6-7 p.m. at the Depot Museum. Texas railroad historian Steve Goen will be at the depot, 260 N. Washington St., to sign copies of his latest book, “Passenger Trains of Texas – The Katy.” This 272page volume is his 12th book documenting the railroads of Texas. The public is invited and admission is free.
CVICA Dinner
The Colorado Valley Independent Cattlemen’s Association (CVICA) annual fundraiser barbecue and trade show will be held Saturday, Feb. 17 at the La Grange KC Hall located at 190 S. Brown Street in La Grange. The meal is barbecue brisket, pinto beans, coleslaw and other sides. The event starts at 4 p.m. Free refreshments will be served from 4-6 p.m. and meal starts at 6 p.m. This event features cash door prizes, a gun raffle, silent and regular auctions. Garage Sale
The Round Top Historical Society is hosting their annual Garage Sale Fundraiser with typical household items (no clothing), antiques, books, linens, furniture, lamps on Saturday, Feb. 17 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 397 E. Winchester Dinner- Domino Tournament
Winchester Fried Chicken Dinner and Domino Tournament to be held Sunday, Feb. 18. Dinner will begin at 11 a.m. and the fried chicken meal will be $15 a plate. The domino tournament will begin at 1 p.m. with reservation being $10 per person. Both “Straight” dominos and “42” will be played. The event will be held at the St. Michael’s Park Pavilion. Hostyn CDA Chicken Fried Steak Dinner
The Hostyn Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Queen of the Holy Rosary No. 2282 will hold their annual drivethru fundraiser at the KC Hall in La Grange on Tuesday, Feb. 20 from 4 to 6 p.m. The meal will consist of chicken fried steak, buttered noodles, mixed vegetable blend, and white gravy for $12 a plate. Massage Wellness Class at Library
Every third Tuesday of every month starting on Feb. 20, from 5-6 p.m. Donna Ellis, LMT from Loosen Up Massage & Mobility, will join for a once-a-month class on therapeutic touch and massage techniques. Winedale Online Talk
Juneteenth – A Celebration of Emancipation” Sharon Gillins, genealogist and researcher, will recount the story of how freedom came to Texas more than 2½ years after the effective date of the Emancipation Proclamation and the evolution of the celebrations that followed from 1865 to present day, including efforts to establish Juneteenth as a national holiday. VFW Post 5254 & Auxiliary Meeting
The Fayette Memorial VFW Post 5254 and Auxiliary of La Grange will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 20, at the VFW Post Home at the Fairgrounds in La Grange. Meeting time for the VFW Auxiliary is 5 p.m. The Post and Auxiliary will join together to hear guest speaker Judge Steinhauser at 6 p.m., after which there will be a light meal and then the VFW Post will meet. LG Elementary Library Book Fair
It’s time for the La Grange Elementary Library Book Fair. Grown-ups are welcome to shop after school weekdays from 4 to 5:30 p.m. from Feb. 21-27. Those who wish to donate books to the library or to a teacher’s classroom can come to the fair and shop from the school wishlists. Cash or check donations can also be dropped off at the LES office from 8 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Make checks payable to LGISD with a note identifying the donation.
Fayette County Republican Women
The Fayette County Republican Women will hold their monthly meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at Frisch Auf! Valley Country Club, 575 Country Club Dr. in La Grange, from 11 a.m. to 1 pm. Check-in will begin at 10:45 a.m. with an option to purchase lunch for $20 inclusive, payable by cash or check. A short business meeting will commence at 11:15 a.m. followed by our candidate introductions. The following have committed to attend: Congressional District 10 race, Eddie Araza for Rep. Fayette County Texas Exes are having a food drive to support local food pantries. Non-perishable food items can be dropped off Feb. 9-24 at: La Grange Chamber of Commerce, 220 W. Colorado St. in La Grange; Jones Insurance Services, 357 N. Jefferson St. in La Grange; Round Top Brewing & Kitchen, 101 W. Austin St. in Round Top; Round Top Real Estate, 101 Main St. in Round Top; Orsak’s Cafe, 121 W. Fayette St. in Fayetteville; Circle C General Store, 306 N. Rusk St. in Fayetteville; Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce, 618 N Main St. in Schulenburg; and Flatonia Baptist Church, 225 E. 6th St. in Flatonia.
Round Top Hermann Sons Lodge No. 151 will have their monthly meeting on Thursday, Feb. 22 at the Round Top American Legion Hall. Social time at 6 p.m. and meeting at 6:30 p.m. Hot dogs will be furnished and members may bring side dishes or desserts.
Weimar Encore Lions Club

Vietnam Veterans Meeting

2024 Scholarship Applications
The Fayette Community Foundation (FCF) is now accepting applications for its 2024 scholarships, with a deadline of April 1. All Seniors graduating from public, private, and homeschool programs within an 80 mile radius of La Grange are encouraged to apply. A&M Club Offering Scholarships
The Fayette County A&M Club is again offering scholarships to seniors of Fayette County high schools that are planning to attend Texas A&M University. Applications must be received or postmarked no later than March 1. The application can be obtained from your school counselor. Music and Movement Class
Do your kids love music and movement? Join the Fayette Public Library for a new music and movement class with music teacher Jaci Elliot. This class will be offered to children ages five and up and will introduce children to music instruction, instruments, movement, and signing. Registration is not required. Music and Movement Class will be on the first and last Wednesday of every month from 4-5 p.m. starting in February. Monthly program calendars are available for pick up at the library. Adult Crafternoon at Library
Do you love to craft and need an hour to relax? This monthly program will be every second Thursday from 5-6 p.m. Coffee and tea will be available to enjoy. Crafternoon is for adults 18 and up. You can choose to color, paint, create, or participate in our themed craft. Registration is required for the themed craft, and spots are limited to 10 participants. Farm Bureau Scholarships
The Swiss Alp/Ammannsville/Dubina Farm Bureau will again award scholarships to seniors from area high schools. The scholarships may be used at any accredited university, college, or vocational school. Scholarship applications may be obtained by contacting counselors at the schools. The requirements to be eligible for this scholarship are that the applicant’s parents and/ or grandparents be members of the Swiss Alp/Ammannsville/ Dubina Farm Bureau. Return the scholarship applications back to the counselors at the high school.
