Democratic Party

Round Top Lodge will meet at the Round Top American Legion Hall on Thursday, Jan. 25. Social hour at 6 p.m. and meeting at 6:30 p.m. Steak and sausage will be provided for the meal and members are asked to bring side dishes or desserts.

Garden Club

David Wills will be the guest speaker at the next Garden Club meeting Jan. 25 at 2 p.m. at Randolph Recreation Center in La Grange. Wills is a Fayette County rancher, nurseryman, landscape contractor and Fayette County Record contributor to list a few of his hats, will share his knowledge on local trees, which ones are best to plant, how to plant, how to care for them.

The Rutersville Cemetery Association members will meet on Thursday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m. at The Hermann Sons Life Lodge in Rutersville. Members are urged to attend to discuss important business matters. For more information you may call (979) 249-5050 or (979) 249-5105.

There’s more The Fayette County Chapter of the Texas German Society will have their meeting on Monday, Jan. 29 at 5 p.m. at the Randolph Rec. Center. The La Grange High School folk dancers will perform. Members should bring a snack or dessert to the meeting. Everyone is invited to attend.

GriefShare Program

Are you grieving the loss of someone dear? Pastor Andy Smith is offering a 13-week GriefShare program each Tuesday, beginning Jan. 30 at 6 p.m. through 8 p.m. at New Life Methodist Church, 1215 N. Von Minden St., La Grange. You will find understanding, guidance, relief, and a safe place to navigate the challenges of grief. Winedale Online Talk

On Tuesday, Jan. 30 at noon via zoom, join San Jacinto Battleground educator Bailey Brantley as she provides an overview of the battle of San Jacinto titled “18 Minutes through 187 Years: The Battle of San Jacinto and its National Aftermath.”. She will recount how against numeric odds, morale challenges, and varying amounts of military experience amongst its soldiers, the Texan army was able to overcome the Mexican army in the 18-minute Battle of San Jacinto and change the course of history. Writing Contest For Students

League of Women Voters of South Central Texas is holding a writing contest for students in grades 9-12 in five counties: Colorado, DeWitt, Fayette, Gonzales, and Lavaca. The “Celebrating Women: Student Writing Showcase” aims to engage students to honor women who have made a real difference in their local communities. You can read more at www.lwvsouthcentraltx.org. Deadline for submission is Jan. 31. Seven winners will receive $300 each and an opportunity to share their work at the March 10 “Women Making History” event at Schulenburg’s Sengelmann Hall.
