Democratic Lunch
The Fayette County Republican Women will hold their monthly meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 17 at Frisch Auf! Valley Country Club, 575 Country Club Dr. in La Grange, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Check-in will begin at 10:45 a.m. with an option to purchase lunch for $20 inclusive, payable by cash or check. A short business meeting will commence at 11:15 a.m. followed by our candidate introductions. Each candidate will have five minutes to introduce themselves, then take a few audience questions. Support Group
The Fayette County Parkinson’s Support Group will hold their January meeting on Thursday, Jan. 18, at 10 a.m. at the Randolph Recreation Center. Anyone who has been diagnosed as having, or perhaps has a personal interest in, this progressive disease is welcome to attend. Topics that may be discussed include a set of eating utensils that make chasing food around a plate much easier and less frustrating. We will also look at some new developments being encouraged through research. All attendees will be welcomed.
There’s more The Central Texas Food Bank truck will be at the Waldeck Lutheran Church located at the Junction of FM-1291 and FM2145 on Saturday, Jan. 20 from 10-11 a.m. Food distribution will be walk-up method. Volunteers will distribute the food from tables as the clients walk-thru the line making their selections. Every client needs to bring their own sturdy reusable bags, boxes, or plastic tubs. Wagons will be furnished by CTFB.
Texas Master Naturalist Meeting
The Texas Master Naturalist-Gideon Lincecum Chapter (TMN-GLC) meeting with speaker David Bezanson on conservation easements will be held Saturday, Jan. 20 at 9:30 a.m. at the AgriLife Extension Office located at 255 Svoboda Lane in La Grange.
Quilt Guild Hosts Special Guests
The Colorado Valley Quilt Guild welcomes you to bring in the New Year and join them at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 23. Michelle Lavender from HollyDee Quilts will entertain with a trunk show and demonstrate her way of doing improv quilting – a fun, no rules, free to be me, way of quilting. On Wednesday, Jan. 24 from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., will join Michelle in an improv workshop and learn her way of turning our scraps into quilts that say “This is me.” Come with an open mind and learn how to make a quilt as unique as you are. Relay For Life Meeting
A meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 24 at the La Grange City Hall Chambers at 5:30 p.m. Attend this meeting to learn more about Relay For Life. Fundraiser & Bake Sale
A fundraiser and bake sale for Michelle Recek will be held Thursday, Jan. 25 at the KC Hall, 190 S. Brown Street in La Grange, from 4-6 p.m. A chicken fried chicken dinner with gravy, buttered noodles, green beans and a roll is $12 a plate. All proceeds to go toward Michelle’s medical expenses.
Columbus High School Recital
The purposes of this recital is to expose students and the surrounding community to a variety of high quality repertoire on varying instruments. This recital is free and open to the public and will feature Anthony Allen on percussion and Alexander Busby on woodwinds with pianist Tim Smale. The recital will be held on Thursday, Feb. 1 at 6 p.m. in the CHS Auditorium.

Grief Group
Hospice Brazos Valley is offering anAnticipatory Grief group. This is a monthly support group for caregivers of loved ones who have a terminal or chronic diagnosis. The group meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 10 a.m. at the Hospice Brazos Valley office, 1048 N. Jefferson, La Grange. The City of La Grange has designated Saturday, Jan. 20 as Residential Bulk Curbside Pick-Up Day for the hard to dispose of bulky items. Waste Management will pick up one free load of bulky items on this day. All items should be within three feet of the curb by Friday evening. Trucks will be starting at 7 a.m. on Saturday morning to pick up items for La Grange Utility customers. Bulk items include: stoves, refrigerators and air conditioners which have been tagged and certified as being “freon free” by a licensed technician, microwaves, water heaters, washing machines/ dryers, barbeques, mattresses, chairs, recliners, couches and other furniture. Bulk items not accepted: tires, paint, chemicals, batteries, tile/toilets/bath tubs, mirrors/glass, cinder blocks/ bricks/rocks, construction debris, televisions/computer monitors, motor oil or used filters. LGISD Nominations for Gifted/Talented
La Grange ISD is accepting nominations for the Gifted and Talented program for the 2024-2025 school year. The Talent Pool and LEAP programs are designed to provide additional challenge and stimulation for academically talented students. Parents, teachers, and community members may nominate students currently enrolled in LGISD in 1st-11th grade to participate in the screening process to determine eligibility for the LEAP program. Nomination forms are available on the La Grange ISD website under “Inside LGISD-Gifted & Talented”. All nominations are due by Feb. 1. Round Top-Carmine Independent School District requests nominations for Gifted/Talented students in Kindergarten. Nominations will be accepted from RTC staff, parents, and community members. The state defines a gifted and talented student as, “a child or youth who performs at or shows the potential for performing at a remarkably high level of accomplishment when compared to others of the same age, experience, or environment”. They should also, “exhibit high performance capability in an intellectual, creative, or artistic area, possess an unusual capacity for leadership, or excel in a specific academic field”.
