Legion, Auxiliary

The Fayette Public Library is hosting its annual Christmas Open House on Wednesday, Dec. 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Santa will be at the library from 10 to 12 p.m. Come and enjoy some holiday cheer with and celebrate the season. Christmas music, food, refreshments, and more.

The American Legion Post and Auxiliary Unit No. 102 will host their annual Christmas party on Wednesday, Dec. 13 at the VFW Home located at Veterans Memorial Drive at the Fair Grounds in La Grange. Come join for an evening of fellowship and food. The social hour will begin at 5 p.m. followed by a catered meal served at 6 p.m. The Post and Unit members and their spouse/guest are invited to attend this festive event honoring and thanking our Veterans for their service to our Country.

Xmas Crafternoon

Would you like to learn how to cross-stitch? Mindy Baker from The Quilted Skein will join the Fayette Public Library on Thursday, Dec. 14 from 5-6 p.m. for a Christmas Crafternoon. Enjoy a relaxing hour learning how to crossstitch a Christmas-themed design. Coffee and tea will be available, and all materials will be provided. Library programs and events are free and open to the public. Registration is required for this event, with 10 available spots. There’s more Join us Thursday, Dec. 14 from 5-7 p.m. at the Fellowship Hall at the La Grange New Life Methodist Church located at 1215 N. Von Minden in La Grange. Teresa Stanley Brown from Gardenia E. Janssen Animal Shelter will be the guest speaker. There will be a pot luck, so bring your favorite dish. Turkey Dinner Giveaway

St. James Missionary Baptist Church in Schulenburg, under the direction of Rev. Andrew Stafford, will host a turkey dinner giveaway at the Wolters Park Pavilion in Schulenburg on Saturday, Dec. 16, from 1-5 p.m. The church, with assistance from the Schulenburg Police Department, will give away 50 turkey dinners (or gift cards to purchase a dinner), limited to one per household. Proof of address may be required. Children’s goodie bags with fruit and candy will also be given away. The purpose of the event is to build bridges in the community. Food Bank Truck

The Central Texas Food Bank (CTFB) truck will be at Waldeck Lutheran Church located at the junction of FM-1291 and FM-2145 on Saturday, Dec. 16 from 10-11 a.m. Food distribution will be walk-up. Volunteers will distribute the food from tables as clients walk-thru the line making their selections. Every client needs to bring their own sturdy reusable bags, boxes, or plastic tubs. Wagons will be furnished by CTFB.

Advent Lessons & Carols, St. Barnabas’s At 3 p.m., on Dec. 17 (the third Sunday in Advent), St. Barnabas’s Anglican Church of Bellville, 237 West Austin Street, will present its annual service of Advent Lessons & Carols. The service is about an hour long and will be followed by an offering of light refreshments, appropriate to the season of Advent, in which the Church prepares for celebrating the First Coming of Our Lord Jesus Christ, traditionally observed during the Twelve Days of Christmastide, Dec. 25-Jan. 5. The Christmas season does not end but begins on Christmas Day, and looks ahead to His Return, the Second Coming.

Christmas Caroling in Shelby

Join for an evening of Christmas caroling Sunday, Dec. 17 at 5:30 p.m. located in the old church building on Skull Creek Road in Shelby. Enjoy singing, refreshments and celebrate the season. Bring a flashlight, a blanket and invite others.

Farm Bureau Local Christmas Party The Swiss Alp, Ammannsville, Dubina Farm Bureau Local will host their Christmas Party on Dec. 19 at the Swiss Alp Farm Bureau building on Hwy. 77. Social hour starts at 6 p.m. Please bring a pot-luck dish and beverage to share.

Flatonia-Cistern Farm Bureau Dinner Flatonia-Cistern Farm Bureau catered Christmas dinner and 2023 quarterly meeting will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 19, at the American Legion Hall in Flatonia. Social hour will start at 5:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6 p.m. The guest speaker will be Pat Lyons of Muldoon, who was awarded a SilverStar, a Purple Heart and other military honors while serving in the Vietnam War. A short business meeting will follow the Christmas turkey dinner.

VFW, Auxiliary Christmas Party

Fayette Memorial VFW Post No. 5254 and Auxiliary of La Grange will hold their annual Christmas party on Tuesday, Dec. 19, at the VFW Post Home beginning with a social at 5 p.m., Voice of Democracy and Patriots Pen contest winners awarded prizes at 6 p.m., and catered turkey with all the trimmings dinner served at 6:30 p.m. Fundraiser fun too, for the local VFW Auxiliary scholarships.

Vietnam Veterans Meeting

In place of the normal meeting on the third Wednesday in December, our annual Christmas Social & Dinner for VVA, AVVA, Spouses and Guests is on Dec. 20, at the KJT Hall in Ammannsville, Texas beginning at 6:30 p.m. for social time and dinner at 7 p.m.

Campfire Christmas Eve Service

First Baptist Church in La Grange will have a campfire on Christmas Eve, Sunday, Dec. 24 at 5 p.m. Bring chairs, blankets and roasting sticks and celebrate Jesus around the campfires. More information and inclement weather information available online at fbclagrange.net/Christmas.

Al-Anon Meetings in Bastrop

Al-Anon meetings are held every Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at United Methodist Church located at 1201 Main St. in Bastrop. If you are struggling with a relative or friend who misuses alcohol or any other addiction, Bastrop Al-Anon (Let it Begin with Me) group is here for you. Marine Corps League Meeting
