Notice For Republican Party Candidates
The community is invited to the Dedication Ceremony of the Texas State Historical Marker at Cistern Public Cemetery. The ceremony will be held Saturday, Nov. 11 at 10 a.m. at St. Cyril & Methodious Catholic Church, to be held in the St. John Parish Hall, located at 113 Manchester St. in Cistern. After a brief program, the Historical Marker will be unveiled at the cemetery. Cistern Public Cemetery is located at the corner of St. Charles St. and Manchester St. in Cistern.
Applications for a place on the Republican party 2024 primary ballot opens on Nov. 11. FCRP County Chairman, Deborah Frank, will be accepting applications on Monday, Nov. 13, at Latte on the Square, 2189 W. Travis in La Grange, starting at 10 a.m., until 3 p.m. A notary will be there to notarize your application. A money order or cashier’s check is the preferred method of payment for your filing fee. If you are unable to submit your application on Nov. 13, you may contact Deborah Frank at (979) 270-1555 to arrange a date, time, and location to meet. Then, your application must be notarized when you submit it with your filing fee. The last day to file for a place on the 2024 primary ballot is Dec. 11 at 6 p.m.
Visit With Elaine Thomas
Friends of the Schulenburg Library invite the public to visit with Elaine Thomas, the author of Stories I’ve Been Told – Volume 3, and those from the Schulenburg area featured (or their family members) in the new book on Saturday, Nov. 11 from 10 a.m -12 at the Schulenburg Library. Refreshments will be served.
Veteran’s Day Poster Exhibit
The Smith-McMillann Daughters of the American Revolution and the Quade-Werchan American Legion Auxiliary will sponsor a Veteran’s Poster display inside the Round Top Courthouse on Saturday, Nov. 11. Posters have been created by locals and also Round Top Carmine students. The public is invited.
Lions Famous Cheeseballs
The Bluebonnet Lions are taking pre-orders for their famous cheeseballs. Each cheeseball is $12. Cash or check with pick up on Nov. 11 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the New Life Methodist Church located at 1215 N. Von Minden. Contact Donna Pyle at (979) 966-3485 or by text. St. James BBQ & Bake Sale
The St. James Episcopal Men’s Club (Holy Smokers) will hold a barbecue and the women will hold a bake sale Saturday, Nov. 11, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. or until sold out, at 156 N. Monroe St. across from H-E-B. A half chicken is $6 and sausage link is $7, drive through only. This barbecue is for the benefit of Serenity Star Recovery.
Airing of the Quilts in Smithville
The airing of the quilts on Main Street in Smithville and White Glove Church tour will be held Saturday, Nov. 11 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Stop by Van Zandt Properties located at 305 Main St. to pick up your map of participating churches and enter the raffle benefitting The Smithville Garden Club. St. Paul Lutheran to Host TLU President
Debbie Cottrell, President of Texas Lutheran University, will visit St. Paul Lutheran Church located at Walnut and Jefferson Streets in La Grange on Sunday, Nov. 12 at the 9 a.m. service. A meet and greet with TLU alumni and friends as well as church members will follow with coffee after the service. The presiding Minister for worship will be TLU campus pastor Wes Cain. All are welcome.
Bingo for Seniors
Bingo for seniors (60 and older plus guests) will be held at the Ledbetter Community Center on Sunday, Nov. 12 from 2-4 p.m. Doors open at 1:15 p.m. $5 card covers all games with prizes awarded for each game. Chips/snacks and drinks will be available for a free-will donation. This is a non-profit community event for entertainment. Money collected will be used to purchase prizes and other expenses. Arts & Crafts Show Schulenburg
The Greater Schulenburg Chamber of Commerce will present a Holiday in the Country Arts and Crafts Show on Sunday, Nov. 12. The doors open at 9 a.m. and close at 4 p.m. The event will be held at the Schulenburg Hall (formally known as the Schulenburg KC Hall) located at 405 South Street, Schulenburg. There will be handmade crafts, Christmas décor, baked goods, Scentsy products, Tupperware, wood crafts, plants, crosses, wine décor and gift bags, aprons, jewelry, purses, and much, more. Throughout the day there will be door prizes but, you must be present to win. Food and drink will be available.
Berclair Mansion Tour
Deadline to purchase a ticket for the Holiday Tour of the Berclair Mansion is fast approaching. This Holiday Get-Away is being hosted by the Casino Art Association Board and La Grange Main Street on Sunday, Dec. 3. The trip will include a gourmet luncheon along with tours of the festive Mansion. Twenty-five plus vendors will also be on the grounds for holiday shopping at their Christmas Market. The total cost of the tour, luncheon and bus transportation is $70. Reservations will be limited so contact the La Grange Main Street, 155 E. Plum Hermann Sons Life
The Plum Hermann Sons Life will meet Monday, Nov. 13 at 5 p.m. at the Prairie Valley Schoolhouse, 2510 Williams Rd. in West Point. Meal and dessert will be provided. Members, save the date for the Christmas party, Saturday, Dec. 9 at 4 p.m. at Prairie Valley Schoolhouse.
Retired Teachers’ Meeting
The Fayette County Retired Teachers’ Association will meet on Monday, Nov. 13, at the New Life Methodist Church Fellowship Hall, located at 1215 Von Minden in La Grange. A silent auction will be held to benefit the TRS Foundation. Members and guests may bring items for the auction (not a requirement). Fellowship time will be at 1:30 p.m auction-viewing time, and business meeting will begin at 2 p.m. While the association name implies only teachers, all personnel are invited, whether they are from another city, county, or state.
