The August meeting of the Parkinson’s support group will be held Thursday, Aug. 17 at the Randolph Recreation Center 653 E. Pearl in La Grange. Meetings begin promptly at 10 a.m. and end at 11 a.m. Everyone is welcome, but we especially encourage those individuals who have been diagnosed, along with their caregivers to attend. The Fayette County Republican Women will hold their monthly meeting on Thursday, Aug. 17 at the La Grange City Hall, 155 E. Colorado St. Our speaker will be Senator Lois Kolkhorst. She will discuss some of the highlights of this year’s legislative session. There’s more James C. Kearney, an assistant professor in the Department of Germanic Studies at the University of Texas, combines his Vietnam memoir with his translation of W. A. Trenckmann’s civil war novel, The Forty-Eighters on Possum Creek, to argue that the dilemma faced by German immigrants during the Civil War has striking parallels to the situation many Americans faced during the Vietnam War. The program and book signing will be Thursday, Aug. 17, at 6:30 p.m. in the Fayette Public Library meeting room.
Food Bank Truck
The Central Texas Food Bank truck will be at the Waldeck Lutheran Church located at the Junction of FM-1291 and FM2145 on Saturday, Aug. 19, from 10 until 11 a.m. Food distribution will be walk-up method. Volunteers will distribute the food from tables as the clients walk-thru the line making their selections. Every client needs to bring their own sturdy reusable bags, boxes, or plastic tubs. Wagons will be furnished by CTFB.
Back to School Blast
St. James United Methodist Church located at 710 N. Jackson in La Grange will have a back to school blast with Jesus on Saturday, Aug. 19, beginning at 9 a.m. until 12 noon. Outside games, crafts, water ballons, refreshments, give a ways and lots more. Parents need to be present with small children. La Grange Community Blood Drive A La Grange Community Blood Drive will be held a the KC Hall located at 190 S. Senior Citizens Event
The Fayette County Fair Senior Citizens event, 65 and older, will take place on Aug. 31 from 4-6 p.m. at the Pavilion Hall at the fairgrounds. There will be music, refreshments, door prizes and a meal served at 5 p.m. Advance tickets can be purchased at the Lone Star Cleaners, Round Top State Bank La Grange, Orsak’s Cafe in Fayetteville, or by contacting Barbara Kalina at (979) 249-7450. The tickets are $5 each and may also be purchased at the door on the day of the event for $5. On Aug. 16 and Aug. 17, advance tickets will be sold at the fairgrounds ticket booth from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.
La Grange All Sports Booster Club The La Grange All Sports Booster Club is holding a raffle for four La Grange Leopards 2023 premium reserved seats. Seats are located at the 50 yard line, section C, row O, seats 14-17. Tickets are $10 for one or $50 for six. Value of the seats is $1200 for varsity home games. Drawing will take place on Aug. 30.
