Habitat Fundraiser

Jill Stueber will be back in the kitchen cooking up casseroles for a Habitat for Humanity fundraiser next month. Fayette County Habitat is offering chicken spaghetti and beef lasagna frozen casseroles in large and small sizes. Orders will be accepted until May 1. Summer Day Camp

The City of La Grange Recreation Department will begin registration for the 2023 Summer Day Camp on Wednesday, May 3, 4-6 p.m. at the Randolph Recreation Center, 653 East Pearl. To register parents must have completed forms, a $25 registration fee and pay for the participant(s) first and last week of camp. Youth must be entering kindergarten up to entering sixth grade for the 2023-2024 school year. Weekly fees are $100/1st camper; $90/2nd camper, and hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Spaces are limited and will be on a first-come-first-serve basis at sign-up. Registration packets will be available on Monday, May 1 for parents to pick-up, complete and return at time of sign-up. There’s more Hermann Sons Life Rutersville will have their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, May 3 at 7 p.m. The meal will be fajitas and members are asked to bring a side or dessert.

American Legion Quade-Werchan

The next monthly meeting for American Legion Quade-Werchan Post No. 338 and Ladies Auxiliary will occur on Thursday, May 4, beginning at 6:30 p.m. Prior to the meeting a catered meal will be served to all post and auxiliary members to honor the 101st year of operations of the post. Reservations ae requested so that an accurate meal count may be made. The meal will be served at 6 p.m. Members are encouraged to attend as the post continues to evaluate outstanding items and considers plans for the remainder of the 2023 calendar.

Drinking Habits

Fayette County Community Theatre’s newest production, Drinking Habits will be May 5 and 6 starting at 7 p.m. and May 7 at 3 p.m. Enjoy this laugh out loud comedy at the Sanford Schmid Amphitheater on the grounds of the Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center located at 250 W. Fairgrounds Road, La Grange. Tickets are on sale at faycotheatre.com or at the box office at 120 S. Washington off the La Grange square.

Volunteer Service Day at Festival Hill

The Round Top Festival Institute Gardens and Grounds Volunteer Service Day will be held on Saturday, May 6 beginning at 9:30 a.m. with check-in at the yellow school building and light breakfast snacks provided by Lollitop Sweetshop, after an overview of project areas for the day, crews gear up and get started. Projects of trimming, raking leaves and planting typically last until noon, when crews wrap up and head out to lunch provided by The Stone Cellar. Interested in contributing to the Festival Hill Gardens and Grounds Service Day? Bottled water, breakfast goodies, light snacks, fruit and bug spray are needed to name a few items. The Muldoon Museum building will be open to the public on Saturday, May 6 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Mayfest at Holy Rosary Church

Queen of the Holy Rosary Church, Hostyn, located 6 miles South of La Grange off Hwy. 77 will have Mayfest on Sunday, May 7. Mass at 10 a.m. outdoors under the tent. Hostyn style dinner 11 a.m until 1 p.m. Barbecue pork and sausage and all the trimmings $14. Drive thru available 11 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Hamburgers available after 3 p.m. Games, country store, cake wheel, plant wheel, drawings and a silent auction. Music through out the day by Texas Sound Check and the Czechaholics.

Community Worship Service & Dinner

Bethlehem Lutheran Church will be hosting a community worship service and dinner on Sunday, May 7 at the Round Top Rifle Hall. Join for a wonderful day of fellowship, food and fun. The day begins at 10 a.m. with a rousing outdoor service featuring the Hilltop Ramblers from Greenvine. After the service, starting at 11 a.m., the congregation youth will host a fundraiser dinner. They will be serving pulled pork barbecue sandwiches with coleslaw and chips. Serving will continue until 12:30 p.m., or when the delicious food runs out. A sweets table will provide lots of choices for a fine dessert. The fun continues with the announcement of the winners in the exciting multi-prize raffle. Country Music Monday Country Music Monday will be held May 8 at the Lee County Senior Center located at 165 W. Austin Street in Giddings from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 5 p.m. Ken Brothers and George Hernandez will play. This is a free will donation.

Retired Teachers to Meet

The Fayette County Retired Teachers’Association will meet on Monday, May 8 at the Fellowship Hall of First United Methodist Church, located at 1215 Von Minden in La Grange. Social time will be at 1:45 p.m. followed by a Fellowship Gathering with a recipe swap and tasting. Bring a favorite recipe and a printed copy, in small portions for all to enjoy. A recap of the “Day at the Capitol” will be discussed, along with the upcoming District Leadership Conference on May 11. Those who have not yet paid their yearly dues are encouraged to do so at this time. All retired public school personnel are welcome to attend, even if from another city, county, or state.
