Calling All Aggies

Adult computer classes will be held Friday, April 21 at the Fayette Public Library from 10 a.m. until 12 noon. Learn basic computer skills, ask questions and learn to navigate the internet with Greg Walker. Space is limited. Contact the library at (979) 968-3765 or stop by to reserve your spot.

St. James BBQ

The St. James Episcopal Men’s Club will hold a barbecue and the Women will hold a bake sale Saturday, April 22, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. or until sold out, at 156 N. Monroe St across from HE- B. A half chicken is $5 and a sausage link is $7. The meal is drive through only. This barbecue is for the benefit of Fayette County Habitat for Humanity.

Fundraiser

Fayette County Habitat for Humanity and Fayette County Community Theatre are having a fundraiser at Mac’s Daqs on Saturday, April 22 from beginning at 6 p.m. The event is for 21 years or older and will be 80’s themed with dance and costume contests. Funds raised will be split between the two organizations.

There’s more Mrs. Rangel’s 8th grade homeroom class at La Grange Middle School is having a bake sale in front of Julie B’s in La Grange on Saturday, April 22 from 8:30 am until sold out. The bake sale will benefit the La Grange Randolph Recreation Center Summer Camp Program to help with supporting student activities, participation and extra equipment. Please come out and help our local youth. Donations of puzzles, educational games and board games for ages 5-12 are also being accepted. Please drop off donations at the bake sale or at the middle school office.

Curb-Side Bulk Trash Pickup

The City of La Grange has designated Saturday, April 22, as Residential Bulk Curbside Pick-Up Day for the hard to dispose of bulky items that are difficult for you to take to or drop off during our semiannual cleanup. Waste Management will pick up one free load of bulky items on this day. All items should be within three feet of the curb by 5 p.m. on Friday. Trucks will be starting at 7 a.m. on Saturday morning to pick up items from the entire city. Bulk items include: stoves, refrigerators and air conditioners which have been tagged and certified as being “freon free” by a licensed technician, microwaves, water heaters, washing machines/ dryers, barbeques, mattresses, chairs, recliners, couches and other furniture. Bulk items not accepted include: tires, paint, chemicals, batteries, tile/toilets/bath tubs, mirrors/glass, cinder blocks/bricks/rocks, construction debris, televisions/computer monitors, motor oil or used filters. CDA No. 1962 Meeting

CDA Court Annunciation No. 1962 of La Grange and Plum will be meeting on Monday, April 24, in the Msgr. Harry Mazurkiewcz Center in La Grange at 6:30 p.m. Members are invited to attend. New members are always welcome.

Shiner Chamber Lunch & Learn

The Shiner Chamber of Commerce presents a Lunch & Learn on Tuesday, April 25 from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Shiner Boggy Creek Clubhouse (554 CR 350, Shiner) for networking and lunch sponsored by Shiner Boggy Creek Clubhouse. During lunch there will be a presentation by the UHV Small Business Development Center and a representative from the Office of Governor Greg Abbott regarding the Texas Travel Industry Recovery Grant Program (TTIR). Monthly Free Disability Series

St. Mark’s is having a monthly free disability series that starts Wednesday, April 26 from 2-3 p.m. Talk to your physician about physical, occupational and speech therapy. Learn and share about dealing with difficulties with daily activities, balance, memory or conditions such as Parkinson’s, stroke or amputation. Home School Play Date

Join for a play date and meet homeschooling families, check out the library, bring a sack lunch and enjoy the day on Thursday, April 27 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Round Top Family Library playground. The Friends of the Weimar Public Library welcome all area poets, young and old, to participate in our National Poetry Month celebration. On Thursday, April 27, members of the surrounding communities are invited to participate in Open Mic Night by sharing their gift of poetry at 6 p.m. outdoors at the gazebo by the library. You may choose to read your own poem or one by your favorite poet. The event is intended to celebrate our friends and neighbors who enjoy and write poetry, an art form that has declined in recent years, but has been revitalized during the pandemic. Casserole Fundraiser

Jill Stueber will be back in the kitchen cooking up casseroles for a Habitat for Humanity fundraiser next month. Habitat is offering chicken spaghetti and beef lasagna frozen casseroles in large and small sizes. Orders will be accepted until April 28. Memorial Scholarship BBQ Plates The 3rd annual Roy Koehl Memorial Scholarship fundraiser will be held Thursday, May 4. Presale tickets only. Serving will be in Fayetteville at the school from 4-6 p.m. and in La Grange at the Fairgrounds parking lot from 5-5:30 p.m. Meal consists of half barbecue chicken, buttered potatoes, green beans, pickles and onions catered by Peter’s BBQ for a donation of $14 a plate. Tickets are on sale now through May 1 at Fayette Savings Bank in La Grange, Fayetteville Bank and Orsak’s Cafe in Fayetteville and Pam’s Hair Fashions in Round Top or from 4-H and FFA members in the county. Kyla Faith Memorial Banquet

The Kyla Faith Memorial Banquet Dinner will be held at the La Grange Knights of Columbus Community Center on Saturday, May 6, from 6:30-11 p.m., with a meal served at 7:30 p.m. The meal will consist of barbecue chicken, butter potatoes, pinto beans, coleslaw and trimmings, for $15 a plate. There will be a live and silent auction, card games and a Kyle Faith Memorial “You Matter” Store. Kyla Faith Memorial Golf Tournament The Kyla Faith Memorial will host a two-day, three-man scramble golf tournament May 6-7. The tournament begins at Frisch Auf! Country Club on Saturday, May 6, and continues on Sunday, May 7, at the Weimar Golf Club. Calcutta will be held at the La Grange Knights of Columbus Community Center on Saturday with a catered dinner and happy hour starting at 6:30 p.m. Additional meal tickets will be $15 and must be purchased by Saturday, April 22. On Sunday, there will be a wheel barrel raffle drawing at the Weimar Golf Course. There will also be a 50/50 drawing and lunch will be provided both days. Winners will receive cash and trophy prizes.
